Default Clear signal lamps illegal?

I have no clue exactly what they are called, everyone calls them sidemarkers, but they are not on the fender. It is part of the turn signal/parking light assembly.

Was given a warning saturday night, stating that my clear turn sigal housing is illegal and have 5 days to put the factory one's back in. I bought the car with clear ones in there, and my state inspection told me that as long as there is an amber light in for the turn signals and side markers i am fine. But, this local cop says that it has to have "SAE DOT" on the assembly. My friends cavalier doesn't have anything that says SAE DOT on it, neither does my beater altima.

Give input on whether or not you think it is illegal, and if i have to replace them, i guess i have no choice. Anyone have them?

PS: this is in PA.

By some amber lenses and put them in.

Or buy some orange bulbs and pray that is good enough.

NO, they arent legal.

And what another country gets on their cars does not make it legal here.

So, what in it makes it illegal?

what state do you reside in? Here in NYC all they say is that there must be amber or clear bulbs in the assembly, no colored bulbs! Try to check your local laws.

It's actually kind of funny, i asked the cop how many type r's he pulls over, and he says he pulls them over all the time. And i was like really? You know they only made 2000 of these in 2001? And he's like oh is that so. And i'm like, also, you are aware that there are only 3 in the county where we live? He's like, oh yeah? I told him "yeah" so the likelihood (sp?) of him pulling these over all the time are slim to none, considering i've never been pulled over before in the R. Neither has my friend who has two of them!

Stupid cop

Guess i'll call the state police and see what they say.

technically you cannot modify a vehicle's lighting system. you could add to it but not replace or modify the original equipment.
to make it easy on you, just replace it with a stock one. but you could get a writen statement from your state inspector, and bring that to court.

He gave me a warning, and 5 days to replace them with SAE DOT ones. I bought the car with the clear ones on it, so anyone know where to buy oem ones or Dot approved ones?

So, hid's, projectors, jdm front end, all that is illegal?

thats pretty much it, im from PA also, and they love just pulling people over for the dumbest stuff, and since its a commonwealth the tickets are 3 times as much.

itr_dc2-instead of calling the state police, since there only gonna say listen to the trooper that pulled you over, you should go to your local inspection station and see what they say. if i remember right front signal bulbs must light up orange so if you have orange bulbs you should be fine.

Clear Corners are illegal b/c they do not have amber reflectors on the front of the vehicle, which is required for all vehicles in the us.

also they are not DOT/SAE approved.

And yes, all JDM headlights, clear corners are Illegal, just as long as they don't look too obvious though and are stock looking (NO BLUE BULBS) you should be ok, only the really ******** cops would give you a hard time.

I personally think they're ugly because they add nothing to the car. The "clearness" makes them bland looking.

They're probably illegal because in broad daylight they are tougher to see the bulb IMO.

actually, the state police hate this "regional" guy named cleavenger. He keeps harassing kids giving them stupid warnings, and the state police override it all the time.

The Euro ITRs also have an orange sidemarker that the North American ITRs do not have. Our ITRs have their orange reflector built right into the corner lights.

I know that here in Vancouver, you must have an orange reflecting and light emitting side marker. Clear corners are illegal.
