Anyone have an Idea for an in car camera mount?
The easiest mount I have seen is the one that you mount using the USDM seats headreasts to hold the bar that the camera mounts too, One problem I have the JDM Recaros
So thats out of the question. The only 2 other things I have seen are 1. a bolt in style harness holder camera mount (Not interested as Im not using harnesses until I put in a cage) 2. a Camera holder that sticks on using 2 way tape to the rear glass (Not sure how much I would trust that from not flying off in an accident) Lastly, this is only for track events to get some nice camera footage.
Any ideas are appreciated, Im sure some of the resourceful HT members will have an idea.
TIA
Mike

I/O port has something which attaches to the windshield using 3-4 suction thingies (... a tecnical term), for about $100.
Other than that I've seen people tie down a tripod in the back seat area.

Not much stays still in an accident!

The only place I can think of is to mount it on either the B or C pillar top belt locations. Probably the rear since you don't need it when racing (I hope), and with some box stock build off of that.
Picture won't be centered but hey, life's a bitch
Another option would be to trade seats with me. I'll even include the camera mount I built

Yeah, go with a kit with industrial strength suction cups.

My other idea was to get a J's racing bar that mounts between the rear seatbelts top mounting points and making some type of bracket that will hold a camera to it.
I actually have two camera mounts.
One I've used on the roll bar in my CRX, the other I've recently purchased for use with my harness guide bar in the Type R.
I/0 port was the source for both of these, and cost about as much as the HAMA mount.
BTW -- how far down is your windshiels tinted (since the HAMA mount is for the most part meant to be mounted/installed in front of the passenger seat, on the windshield. ed

Get the harness bar (even if you're not USING a harness) LOL! Then mount the regular IO Port Racing camera mount. It'll cost you about $200 or so for everything.

Mike,
If you care about your body don't fasten anything in a race car with suction cups. A couple of years ago a concrete wall just jumped in front of my GT4 car at Mid-Ohio and my I/O camera mount rotated a considerable amout. I can't imagine what would have happened if it was held on with suction cups. I know SCCA wouldn't allow its use.
That cross bar looks like a good idea or just remove the passenger seat belt on the B pillar and build a bracket or modify the I/O mount to use that bolt hole.

I definately Dont trust suction cups, I want something bolted in. So I'll probably go with either the J's Racing or IOPort bar and then get one of thos ecamera clamps that mount onto the bar, or maybe even make my own mount that bolts through the bar.
Thanks everyone

Mike: The answer is obvious. Install the cage sooner
The second option being a bit cheaper as I took the majority of the interior out of the 2000 to replace my missing interior in my 98.
Basically all I would need is a new passenger door a bit of frame time to fix the side of the car, a cage, an engine, upgraded suspension and brakes, a race seat, and various safety equipment.
Hey Mike,
I have a bar that is mounted btwn my c-pillars where the seatbelts mount, and then I have the I/O Port Camera mount. I have had very good luck with it. The nice thing about haveing the camera mount further back, is you can see the driver's input more than if you had the camera btwn the two front seats. I can get pics if you want.

Pictures would be appreciated Wes
I do like the idea of mounting it farther back using the rear seatbelt mounts for the reason as you stated you can have the driver in the shot also.

Mike, get in touch with Neomugen, "Ray" and have him snap some PICS for you to look at. His is attached to a cross member like the J's bar and also using a professional camera mount that he said cost like $90. or so. I just saw it at the last Auto-X and now I badly want one too.
IM him and tell him I sent ya, he'll help ya for sure.
Good luck,
A.

hey.. i just checked with i/o and they are having a sale next tuesday the 4th the mount will be 15% off and the bar will be 10% hope this helps im going to get one my self..
For what it's worth - the ioport bar fits in EITHER the C-pillar or the B-pillar. I prefer the B-pillar myself, although it nearly eliminates anyone but a child from getting in the back seat & it's a pain to put in/take out. Makes for great video!!
Get yourself a 1 inch in diameter tube about 3 feet long (oh god, I can just imagine the jokes we're gonna get from that statement). Near the end of the tube cut 2 holes for your passenger side headrest posts, make the holes larger than required so that you may put a rubber gromet in between the headrest posts and the 3 foot tube. Install the tube onto the passenger side headrest...line up where the tube goes over the "hump" of the car (the hump where the person in the middle of the backseat has to strattle) and drill a hole there big enough to fit another rubber gromet. Get a threaded rod (3 feet should be more than enough), some washers and nuts...place the threaded rod through the empty gromet (the one lined up with the hump), adjust the bolts as required so that the threaded rod supports the tube on the other end of the 3 foot tube....now mount your camera where ever you like on that removable tube (mount) you just made.
I good way to line up the holes for drilling the passenger side headrest posts is to put some vaseline (or mayonnaise or whatever) on the headrest post ends and "touch" the end of the 3 foot tube with the ends....the vaseline will leave a mark to indicate where to drill. Also note, you have to line up the "hump" support with the headrest support installed as the passenger side front seat does not have the headrests sitting perfectly vertical. Another good idea would be to make a base for your threaded rod to sit on...it makes for a sturdier camera mount.
edit: oops...I forgot you don't have removable headrests...
Oh I know, trade me seats, problem solved!

Thanks Wes, what type of bar is that?
The bar was custom made by a local shop. But, those pics will give you an idea of what something similar would look like. BTW, the bar itself does not create any obstacles or blind spots.
