Default Bitch....Shift Linkage Pin Removal, Tried But No Luck

Right now I am in the middle of swapping motors in my 90 LX, going from the stocker to a simple bump up in the world - D16A6. I trued getting the shift linkage pin out before I pulled the motor, but no go. The motor and transmission are both lying on the floor as of right now with the shift linkage trailing it like a tail. My friends and I took turns whaling on it with the following - 8mm Punch, AC bolt, Drill, Various Drill Bits and there has been no movement on the pin. We have soaked it in PB Blaster and the luck just ain't with us. Any ideas or explanations on how you have got it out would be greatly appreciated.

Default Use the AC bracket mounting bolts

They have a pointed tip, and are the correct size to punch that little
guy out. I did this on my back and with a 5lb hammer with
very little clearance. Worked great! took about ~10 whacks though.

i hammered on mine from above and below on top with a screw driver taped to a jack handle..and below with a 8mm punch...almost 2 hours on each level. Mine still isn't off.

So i'm gonna remove to shifter rod thingy from where it attaches to the shifter..someone told me about that then once its out you can get a real good swing or Drill at it

Haha, that sucks man. I got mine out in like 2 minutes and back in in about 5. I bought a 1/4" punch that had a point side and a flat one. Used the flat side and had some PB Blaster help me out. 3lb sledge > Bitch Pin = OWNED. - Darrell

heres a trick if you use a tapered bolt such as a bolt that holds the ac compresser to the block you can use that to tap it out...

I like the 3lb Sledge Idea the best. I guess that is what is going to happen, I'll let you all know if it will work later.

Ok, the way it came down to it was that regular punch's were not going to work. So went to Lowes and picked up one of those nifty engineers hammers, about four pounds. Went home, smacked the punch, it bent. Said to hell with, grab an AC bolt and wabam, out it came.

Line up the holes, stick pin in as far as it can go, hammer away
Then to drive the pin all the way in, stick a punch that WILL fit in the hole of the pin and hammer some more.

Works the billion times I've done it.

My only issue is getting reinstalled, I have like a dedicated punch ONLY used for that pin

Hey I know this thread is very old, what size of punch do I need for the bitch pin, I usually use a very small and long old socket I have to remove the pin, for some reason, this time I got the socket stuck like 30% into the pin hole, I can freely spin the socket in the hole, any suggestions? I tried heat with vice grips, no luck.

Search for "integra roll pin removal tool" on ebay and you'll find the removal/installer tool.

Awesome thanks! I still have this socket stuck inside, I can provide a picture to show you, I can’t get this damn thing out.

I'm surprised you can't pull it out.

Last pin I removed, I used some threaded rod, washers and metal bushings from the hardware store as a makeshift mini-press to push it out since I didn't want to hammer away on the shift rod.

A c-clamp and some metal rod stock or small sockets may also do the trick, if you can make it fit.

Those may work in your case as well.

Best of luck, and hopefully the hole on your shift linkage isn't too badly damaged.

Yeah I was hoping worst case I cut the socket flat to the linkage end, then hammer the pin back inside to pop out the top part of the socket, but thanks for the info!! I’ll try what you did first then what I said worst case.

Any update on your stuck pin? and I wonder if you can use vise grips and try and wiggle it loose. The worse case scenario is to use a wheel cutter and make two vertical cuts on the socket and it will definitely come off.
