How does a turbo F22 compare to a turbo H22?
I have a 93 S Prelude and I figured the accord guys would know more about turboing F22s so does anyone know if they can compete well with H22s?

well its like this, you are starting with two completely different motors, the F22 is super torquey and with its tranny has long gears so its turbo friendly, but the H22 isnt as turbo friendly because its gearing is shorter, plus, the H22 starts up from basic with about 50 to 70 more horsepower than the F22...go figure...oh, by the way, use the ******* search feature, there have been 50 threads on this topic...have a nice day

gear ratios arnt that big of a difference...especially when you can easily slap an h23 tranny onto the f22 and have some fun. the longer gear ration in the f22 simply lets you stay in boost longer...this is useless in the 1/4 mile. the h23 is longer than the h22, but shorter than the f22. in fact, you my friend need to use the ******* search button. the h22 have a higher compression which is bad for boost. the f22 has a lower compression which is great for boost. the h22 also has weak ringlands (where the piston rings sit). basically, the h22 will need some bottom end work done to it if you want to use a large amount of boost...10psi or more i would say...atleast just to be safe. 10psi on an f22 is cool. but, the h22 will always produce the most power if you are running the same amount of boost.

im glad you responded but don't be so harsh. its pointless to say USE THE ******* SEARCH BUTTON...atleast have some respect and be kind about it....i know its annoying, but saying that type of stuff doesn't solve anything.

surely, but, know how to use the search feature!

An f22 turbo at 14 psi will be blown away by an h22 turbo at 6-8 psi, simply because the h22 is a higher compression engine. Stick some lower compression pistons in the h22, and it could boost even more.
However, the F22 is more boost-happy because of its stock compression (8.8:1 is it?).

So which is better? Swapping in the H22 to do it or using the money saved from that to buy some forged rods, pistons, etc?
this questions is left up to you...what do you want out of your car? turbo's require a lot of attention, whereas the swap with a few mods is pretty much trouble free. how much power are you looking to gain? with a h22 and bolt-ons youre looking at ~190ish whp. someone is running an f22 on here and making ~280 to the wheels on stock internals. if i had the money to boost and h22 i would, but i dont have that much...so im sticking to building my f22. another thing is that not that many people boost built f22's...so i would like to be atleast in the minority. if you want mild gains then you can swap in an h22 or even boost an f22 7psi. if you want major power then build up either an f22 or h22. but really...its all in what you want. do what makes you happy...not what makes me or anyone else happy.

i'm not so sure i'd go up past 300 whp on the stock bottom end, but hey whatever floats your boat...my h22a will be boosted soon, probably only 4-5 psi daily, and maybe 8 at the track...i've heard of 7 psi making up to 270ish whp and 240 ft/lbs....i would personally love to make more power with less boost (ie boost the h22 vs f22), but again, that's just preference...
