Well I don't know about B16's, but I raced a guy this weekend with an Acura engine (assuming it was the LS) and beat him by about 1 car. He made an excuse about him needing a better road in order to race me, but I beat him twice with the same lengh. This was also my first race with this car. I have a sohc vtec in a 90 civic hb with JG header, pos intake, and pos exhaust, also MSD ignition, and a fpr, rolling on 16" Konig's
oh and I don't have A/C.
I'd also like to know what this engine is capable of. So let's see it guys.

I have the whole motor. I'm running the motor with the 88-91 Si Ecu, dist, injectors, and the Si tranny. I'm sure I'm running rich, but I'll work on that when I get the money.

hey ED9Hybrid....what distributor are you using? If you using a 88-91 si distributor drill out the top hole as far as you can to advance it. I thought mine was on stock timing because it looked like it and it was way on retard. Mine was running like crap until I advanced the timing. It made a big difference.

Isn't it better to just get a good cam gear and take it to a dyno?

One thing you guys need to realize, when comparing a SOHC VTEC to a B16 ef...

On the street, of course the SOHC is gonna keep up, unless you get a full 1/4 mile to run, all out. The SOHC and DOHC VTEC are almost the same thing until about 4k.... with a SLIGHT edge to the DOHC. On the track, with similar mods, the results woul dbe MUCH different, as the B16 needs to use every last bit of it's 8k+ rpms to bang out that 160hp......

If your on the passenger side facing the distributor drill out the right side of the top hole. Drill it out to where it you almost drill the side away. To advance it it's counter clock wise, if your face the side of the cap where you plug in the spark plug wire holes.

this basically summurizes some points
strong d16a vs b16a
when comparing areas under the curve you will see is a huge difference, especially in the last 1500rpm of the b16a

I was told only 89-91 si tranny can be used....did your 88 tranny fit with no problems....

Really don't have to swallow it as that was his qualifying time at MIR three weeks ago for Mod4. No NOS, no turbo. He has a Field VTEC controller stcok cams injector & manifold, 4:1 header.

He launches at about 7800 rpm in that but can not remember what size slick.

Sorry that should be stock CAM, not CAMS. He was #2 qualifier with that time. He is putting ZEX in prob this weekend & we may be doing some Sunday runs at Capitol...

Got a couple of projects cooking for next year, but can't tell what they are yet.

I do not know his VTEC control settings. Also his car weighs 2000+ lbs. without him in it, and it is NOT a stripper as all door panels and front seats and carpet in...I will say that he is a Honda mech, builds solid stuff and drives cars like hw stole them....

I had a 89 si tranny till it locked up on me. I think that my 6 puck clutch after a year and a half, finally screwed up the tranny. Then I got another tranny from a friend and didn't know that it was a 88. I had to get a 88 clutch and used my act pressure plate for a 89-00 d-series trannys. The only difference between the 88 tranny and and the newer ones is that the 88 uses a smaller clutch and there are less spines on the thing where you slide the tranny in to the clutch, what ever you call it. I heard that the 88 trannys have better ratios, it seems like it does. My first and second gear is alot faster then before.

I have a vtec controller. I was told that 4800--5000 was the best point for the D16Z6 to switch over to vtec. I've even read that lean it out a bit in vtec is better, when I added 2+ fuel in vtec it felt alot better or I might of thought it did. Does anyone know good setting for the D16Z6 with intake and header, 89 si ecu, distributor, and injectors?
