Default A/C Removal, Any tips?

I'm going to pull my A/C out I finally decided, the whole system. For once I decided to ask for help though before my unexperienced self tried it. So as the title says, has anyone done it? if so, Any tips?

its a pretty straight forward job..i have done it to a few cars..just start unbolting, yanking, wrenching whatever you wanna call it..take off the compressor, remove the a/c belt(ofcourse),basically get rid of anything that has to do with a/c..if you take it out carefully then you could re-use it if you decide to go back..good luck

I would start under the dash.
That's the WORST part of it all so do it first.
Everything (seriously - everything!) else is super easy.

Second worst part is probably the tube in front of the condesor and the condensor itself. Those are just "hard" because you should take the front bumper off first.

You can remove the harness for the A/C. It's serperate from the main harness.

You should also find duct for the blower before you do any of the work.
You will most likely want to retain the heater and vents so you'll need the duct for it.
Just put it in while your're under the dash.

You may also want to get the grommet to replace the one that has the holes for the A/C pipes to pass through the firewall.

I just did this when I swapped my new enigine in... ended up cutting the tubing since the whole system was shot anyway. Then just ripping the rest out. Pretty easy to do.

http://www.fourthgenhatch.com/ac.html this is what I followed to get it done... went smoothly.

for the hole in the firewall, I am using two pieces of 1/8" thick steel plate with holes and smaller gromets to run wiring through it for my amp wiring and other stuff. Welding it on both the enigine bay side and the under dash side this coming friday I will take pics if you want to see em.

it is pretty damn easy. only thing is---be careful when disconnecting the hoses that go into the a/c compressor itself. unbolt VERY SLOWLY so the compressed freon doesnt explode out of the compressor. when i did mine, we couldnt losen the bolt holding a hose on so we used the air gun...... big mistake. that **** pulled the bolt right off but the compressed freon blew everywhere and was super loud.. scared the **** out of me.... so just ease the bolts out and let the pressure out slowly... hope that helps a little.

You really shouldnt be releasing that **** into the atmosphere...

Evacuate the colling system the correct way first and keep that **** out of the air...it only takes 5 minutes.

The hardest part is loosening the lines at the firewall with a motor in the bay cause everytime I do it they are locked on good, other then that its easy as hell.

If you still have this tube i would like to purchase it. So I can remove my ac without duck tape ahah.. How hard is it to take that box out from under the dash after the glove box is out?

Thanks,

Bah you beat me to it, I needed that duct too. And it's easy as heck to undo the evaporator. Just make sure you undo all wiring, and disconnect hard lines running through the firewall first, makes it all easier.

I did the same thing, it was turbo or A/C can't have both so it took me like an hour to do this with everything in the car but it was easy.

Got one of the duct from the yard for $5 bux but that fan blows nothing but hot air no matter what.

My heater is not connected cause it's hot as hell down here.

If you ain't got turbo I would suggest keeping it man. A/C is like a girl, can't live with it and can't live without it.

Realized when driving it in the rain.

Does the a/c blow pretty cold for 4th gens? I've been installing a system in mine lately...and it's making me nervous that all this work will go to waste, seeing everyone ripping theirs out
