Default SH and base 5th gen

how can u tell the differance between a base and an SH 5th gen by looking at it? I'm lookin to buy a a '98 but i'm not sure if its base or SH cause the guy who owned it b4 me shaved the emblems. Is there a differance in the vin I could look up or is there some way to tell by lookin at the tranny or somethin?

I always thought you could tell because the SH had the fatory spoiler... But that isn't always the case. Does it have atts?

also, if there are no aftermarket side skirts, the OEM sideskirts on a base are a graphite/charcoal unpainted plastic color, and the SH will have color matched painted sides.

the rims are different, the base's have the sawblades and the sh's have a more pointy 5star.

the shiftknob on an sh should be leather, and the sh oil filter is accesible from the top of the car, as opposed to a base which can only be accessed from below.

and i believe somewhere in the VIN number, it shows a "5" instead of a "4." i think it's either after bb6 or before it...

thx for all your help. the car does have a custom paint job so i couldnt use the sideskirts trick, but the wheels are the sawblades, so it is a base. the vin checked out too. just wanted to be sure cause this is gonna be a turbo car hopefully.

If you want to make sure check on the VIN #... this is where the difference is...

JHM BB6 1(4) *********

that number in paranthesis is the number you need to look at. If it's a 4 then it's a base. If it's a 5 then it's an SH.

Hey, also if the prelude you're talkin about is dropped it has to be a base. This is because you can't drop an SH prelude because of the Active Torque Transfer System (ATTS). If you do, it'll **** it up and you'll have a base prelude instead of an SH.

sh have sidelights inside the interior at the bottom of the passenger and drivers door .. also the rear deck has no led ... also trunk light is slighty bigger and lights up in sh normally they have 5 star wheels also ... suspension is different ... also header and a pipe ... also has more aggressive cams .. came wit spoiler already installed also has color keyed sides .. thats pretty much that i know of ... the cams are more aggressive but they dont add any power
