In memory of Hans Nothen (HondaHans)
It is with great sorrow that I have just heard of the passing of Hans Nothen. He was a regular Honda-Tech member, and a valued friend of mine. He passed last night, Friday, July 30th, 2004. And if you know him personally and his circle of friends, as I do, you are sure to realize that his death is hitting many people very hard. He had such a close circle of friends.
Hans was a great, great friend of mine. He was fun (my 4 year old daughter loved him), sincere, always in a good mood, and so great to be around. He is survived by his mother, father, and one sister that I know of.
All that I know is second hand, but it appears to have been a natural heart failure of some kind. No car accident, or anything like that. Just a natural thing. He was rushed to the hospital after collapsing and apparently passed before getting there.
I know I can't believe it. He is the last person that should have died so young. And he had been telling me only a few weeks earlier that he wasn't sure he even needed medical insurance because he's never needed it. So, we should all take from this a lesson about enjoying the life you are given. Hans did. And those of us who knew him are better because of it.
Sincerely,
Chris Shenefield

Aw man, I'm so sorry to hear that. I never met him in person, but from his posts on HT he seemed like a really nice guy. My condolences to his friends and family.

I only met him once in person at the Luzerene County Community College autocross with NEPA. He seemed like a cool guy. Never talked to him on these boards.
Before I left that event he told me his object would be to beat me at the next NEPA event. I told him he was on!
Sorry for the lost Chris. I was hoping to meet him again.

I first met Hans back in 96. We lived together for a year in 2000. He personified living every day as if it were his last. What ever he desired he went for, with no regard for the things that keeps most people from living their dreams. Although we weren't the closest of friends, and no doubt had our differences at times, it deeply saddened me to hear of his death Friday night.
His obituary was posted in the local paper today, and it is a shame to see a person who had done so much given a simple one line. http://www.timesleader.com/mld...0.htm
For those who never met him, he was a talented musician. He has been a drummer for as long as I have known him. He played in many local punk bands through the years. When the urge to have a custom drum kit came to him, he learned as much as he could, bought all the parts, and build one him self. For a year, he lived with myself and some friends. He subsisted on a steady diet of 151, and Gran Turismo 2. It was Hans who first sparked my interest in cars. Each weekend, we would watch the Speed Cup Challenge, play GT2, and have a few drinks with friends. He loved nothing more than to bring a laugh to a group, no matter the cost. Hans had a laugh that was unmistakable, I can still here the "hahaha, ohh mannn!" in my head.
To die young is horrible, but to died having never lived is worse...Hans lived every second to the fullest.

Chris,
I just found out, and am truly sorry for your loss...
I only had the pleasure of meeting him once, You introduced us, but within 5 minutes..we shared a laugh..
From what I've read here, he lived his very short life the same..
My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends...(and with you and your family at Red Shift)

From the few times I had the opportunity of hanging around Hans, I can honestly say that he lived his life more than anyone I know. Hans, my friend Luke, and I camped out at Summit Pt for hyperfest in the beginning of July, and the 3 days we spent with him were some of the most memorable days in my head. I have some video footage from the first time we met at Redshift, I will have to dig up.
This is all so sad. I'm sorry for his family and the people who knew him well. I'm sure everyone he met was not only greatly affected by his death, but also by his life.
