Its $3500 CDN to enter. $3500 that could be used for more serious forms of competition.
Still, if I were ever to do a "relaxed" race, that would be the one. The community seems to really get behind it too.

Yeah, but think about how much seat time you get

They just showed the Rally Adelaide on SPEED tonight and often show the Targa Tasmania as well, which are open road high speed rally style events like the Targa New Foundland but run down under in Australia. The Koni importer for Australia runs a Datsun 240Z in those events although the streering wheel is on the wrong side of the car for us. Looks like a blast.

Oops, I was wrong. The $3500 I quoted is for a "touring" entry, whatever that is.

I think its cheaper to if you register early.
I think it'd be awsome to do and I plan on doing it someday, and its only a 4.5hr drive and a 7hr ferry ride for me.
A local shop/team has two fully prepared CRX that you can rent for the event.

Last year one of them finished 8th overall and won its class.

Targa New Zealand footage on Speed KICKED ***. The in-car shots of the crashes were insane.
Great assortment of machinery in action. Its sure did look like a high risk of totalling a car, though

I figured someone would say that almost instantly. I'd say barrel-assing around public roads in the wet is a wee bit hairy overall. I also get bummed seeing vintage cars get destroyed--even when they are racecars being raced. Still sucks for the owner no matter how you slice it.
What do I know--I'm a mere autocrosser. I need to be more hardcore.
