repeated stereo headunit failures in '92 accord

repeated stereo headunit failures in '92 accord
hi all -
i've got a '92 accord EX, which is about to get its fourth stereo head unit.
The stock unit failed at about 4 years (freaked out, sent power antenna running up and down).
The replacement pioneer lasted about a year before being stolen.
The 3rd unit, a clarion, has lost its right channel amplifier, and after long drives with the heater on,
the left channel pukes out too.
I'm guessing that the heater core is real close to the stereo, and the heat is causing the
stereos to fail prematurely.
Anyone else have problems like this? Trying to decide whether to buy a "service contract"
on the replacement...

It does get quite hot in there, but I've never had any problems with head units. I've had 3 in ten years but none of them broke.
