I bought this 98 accord stereo and I need help installing it. I took it to a stereo shop and they did not know how to install it. I have no experience with stereos but I figure it should not be that difficult. I used to have a sony tape deck that I just took out. Do I need to buy a new harness or anything else in order to hook it up? How do I know how to match up the different colored wires? Thanks for your help, I searched and only found two topics on this subject and they did not help me. Here are some pictures: the wires on the back of the cd, the wires that come from my car and the cd player I bought.....

 

somebody has got to know how to do this.....

 

no you don't need to buy a new harness but the fact that the old harness was spliced would complicate this. basically you need to remove that sony harness at the connectors and find the corresponding wire off of the accord headunit. but before you remove the sony one i'd recommend you find out which wire connects to what. try finding a wiring diagram for radio harness.

thanks, that helps me out a lot! Only problem is that I dont see the power antenna trigger listed on the 98 accord diagram? What should I do?

Yeah, you can do that. In my car I don't have any harnesses, and there is no reason it wouldn't work.

you dont even have to cut it...theres male and remale connectors higher up just disconnect those and get new connectors for the accord harness and plug it back together. i told you not to remove the sony harness because it's easier to figure out how they line up with the sony harness because of things like yellow = power, black = ground etc....

 

I just finished installing my accord headunit and it works great. I only paid $25 for it so it's a good deal for someone on a budget. The only problem is that I cant figure out what the antenna trigger is so my antenna is stuck in the down position. Neither of those web sites lists an antenna trigger on the 98 accord HU, so what should I do? I know people put these head units into older integras all the time so there has to be a way....

If you don't mind the ant. being up when playing CDs then just wire it with the acc. , ant will go up as soon as you turn ign. on, or run that wire through a small switch first, then to acc. ,tha way you can control the ant. with switch.
