Default Show Tips/Experience Thread

This thread is for everybody that enters there cars in shows (jdm, street, mild, whatever) will enter, or plans to build a car geared towards street/show. I had several questions about judging and attention to detail points, and this might be a way to open up discussion and ideas. But i do have some questions from those that have competed in shows or recieved magazine features.

1. Are people getting more points for gutted out interiors that have been painted, colorsanded, etc. etc. ??

2. Also i know a few years back it was about how wild ur car was, so now im wondering has it settled down and its all bout the quality and execution not about how creative u got in a crazy way.

3. Also does it seem like more of the magazines are gearing towards the street/performance/show quality cars. Rather than the full show or street/show cars?? I think im noticing that. just wanted to know others opinions

Feel free to kick around any useful feedback, and insight. Not conversate bout whats rice, and not. blah blah

I don't think so. At Chinatown Showoff, a friend of mine that has a completely gutted and sprayed/clearcoated interior overheard the judges talking about his car, and their words "I hate gutted interiors, looks so unfinished." He had taken 2 first place finishes last year, but they weren't feeling the stripped set up. Really depends on the judge you're dealing with

2. Also i know a few years back it was about how wild ur car was, so now im wondering has it settled down and its all bout the quality and execution not about how creative u got in a crazy way.

The quality and execution is important, but some shows are geared more toward super wild set ups (Hot Import Nights/Days), while others maybe more interested in a clean and tasteful/purposeful look (ImportFest SD last year). Again, the judges will be the ones to determine what type of car wins in the end.

3. Also does it seem like more of the magazines are gearing towards the street/performance/show quality cars. Rather than the full show or street/show cars?? I think im noticing that. just wanted to know others opinions

I see a lot of full show cars still, but magazines like TPR and C16 are gearing more toward the street/strip cars now, which is a nice change.

I was just wondering, because i know a few years back, conversions and widebodies were the trend, and now so many people have done them wrong, or every type of conversion has been done. Theres nothing to do but go back to the basics. And hoping the turn will be attention to detial and craftsmanship like a true show should be judged. No matter wild, or mild, if ur paint is executed, ur modifications are executed well, ur gonna get rewarded for it. I remember when i wasnt a fan of gutted interiors. BUt i saw 2 cars one jdm and one euro that has the most impressive attention to detail with the gutted parts, i prefered it over the vinyl trend.

I picked up c16 i must say im inspired by the mag

And the girls used to be beautiful, now every lil girl needing attention wants to be an import model. Even if they dont have the skillz. Its almost becoming like RAP.

The thing is P World, for some of us, we do shows for one reason, exposure. I want as many people as possible to see my car, and my friends cars with http://www.techlogex.com pasted to the car somewhere, and I want them to be impressed with what they see. For me, it's about business. When we go to a show, me and Opi will sometimes stand off to the side, a little away from the cars, and just listen to what's being said by the show goers. If there's no one next to the car, people are brutally honest, lol. You have one group of people that laugh and clown our cars for not having a body kit, or any vents, or 2 toned vinyl interior, etc, and that's fine, it's not everyones flavor. But we have another group of people that come up and really like what we've done, want to know how the car handles, what it runs in the 1/4 mile, how I like my seats or bars, etc, and those are the ones we concentrate on making a connection with. Our cars are by no means "show cars' or "show winners," but people that like our style of building cars, seem to appreciate what we've brought out, and I hand them a flyer or a sticker, and hope that we can do business in the future. I guess I'm kind of a "poser" at the shows, in that I'm not there to win a trophy, I'm there for exposure, and of course to have a good time. I've met some of the coolest people in the world at shows.
I can't believe the amount of money that is spent on paint and body mods by some of the show winners, I could never put that much into a car and not enjoy driving it, but that's just me. If you want to win shows, you have to put out that money, and no matter what, impress the judges. That's the bottom line. Some like one style, others another style. You have to "wow" them some way in order to place.

Trust me Rodrez, i feel where ur getting at. Even tho it sounds like im on a different path. The business side does make me look at this hobby in a more serious manner. Which is something im new to and learning. But i cant lie, im competetive also. I love the passion, i want to do me, but the exposure is also important. So i understand where your coming from. I was just curious, even though i know theres gonna be cars that break the mold, or break the rules, and find sucess. But u have some very good feedback, i appreciate it
