Default FYI: New Comptech Chromoly flywheel!

I just saw this on Comptech's site:

Flywheel, Comptech Sport - Lightweight Steel(94-01 Integra & Type R)
$419.95
NEW! Lightweight chromoly steel weighs
only 8.75 lbs. Heat treated all the way through
so surfacing it won't affect the life of it.
Lighter than some other companies aluminum ones!
For Years: 97-01 Type R
94-01 GSR, LS, RS, & GS

Interesting seeing that the Jun ultra light weights in at around 9.25lbs?

I think that I'll have to have a nice conversation with them when I next take a trip up there.

yeah defintally, also forgot to add this. For those people who like to live on the edge or like to have race setups:

Catalytic Converter Test Pipe (97-00 Type R)
$139.95
For maximum exhaust flow at the
race track. Will cause a Check Engine
Light! NOT LEGAL FOR HIGHWAY USE!

E.S.M. (Electronic Signal Modifier)
$149.95
Coming Soon!
This adjustable switch is commonly
used to keep the ECU from seeing a boost
signal from the MAP Sensor when you are adding
a turbo or supercharger to a car that didn't
come that way. Can be used on any car. Easy
4 wire hookup. Comes adjusted for Honda/Acura
MAP voltage signal, but is easily adjusted to
needs of other cars. Due in mid-December.
Universal fit. Not subject to CARB certification.

Old, but just incase you didn't know:
Fuel Pressure Regulator
$279.95
Designed specifically for turbo or
supercharger applications. Raises fuel
pressure under boost conditions. Adjustable
for pressure and ramp-up rate. Universal fit.
We use this in our NSX and S2000 supercharger kits.
Includes calibration parts and instructions.

They're also working on a new "race only" header...I need to call them again as they were supposed to be borrowing the car again soon...a nice mid-priced alternative for mildly modified vehicles.

is the race header a side exit, the header that they are designing off your hy-tech header? I think I might have seen it at SEMA, but I wasn't if it was the one your talking about.

they had this for awhile now:
Flywheel, Comptech Sport - Lightweight Aluminum (94-01 Integra & Type R)
$449.95
Aluminum Flywheel weighs only 6.75 lb.
So tough that it stands up to the standing
starts with Real Time Racing's Type R's
in the Speedvision World Challenge Series!
Replaceable heat treated friction surface
For Years: 94 - up Integra and Type R

The new one is not aluminum, its steel/chromoly!

I'm pretty sure that's it...they were using the JDM itr header and the HyTech header as two benchmarks to see how their's compared...they are hoping for something in the middle of the two in performance gains, and in price.

Comptech Aluminum flywheel is the best one out, I think.

Lightest one. Superior quality. ****, I have two. One on each motor. Serious.

Love em..

I have to wonder WHY they switched to a new heavier chrome-moly. Must be a reason right? Certainly not to gain weight. Make you wonder. . .

I'm curious, wouldn't 8.75lbs be better for a street driven car, as opposed to 6.75?

thanks

Even for all motor applications, isn't there a point where a flywheel can bee TOO LIGHT??

I don't understand that if the 6.75 lb was strong enough, why change it? And make it heavier too?!?

-Chris, who is confused

Precisely. No problem using 6.75 lb as Mike K can attest to so it wasn't t9 gain weight. I think Chris is on the right track.

i just talked w/Comptech yesterday (my clutch went out over the weekend). They said the aluminum flywheel (6 3/4 lbs) has some stalling issues with it at idle levels. This is not a problem for race cars so much as it is for street/daily drivers. I don't know if the chrome-moly flywheel (8/3/4 lbs) is new but i got the feeling when talking w/Comptech that it is fairly new. I ordered the chrome-moly one so as to not worry about stalling issues, plus it is still lighter than the Spoon/Toda/etc...

in talking with them they said that some do. i don't know the circumstances of the warranty. you may have to get it when you buy the car but i really don't know and i would hate to assume and stear you wrong. my local dealers don't even offer it, northern va, so they told me. talk to you local dealers and other local R owners to find out for sure.

Does not mean it is better. .....................where the mass is on the flywheel is much more important than the total weight

i just said lighter. i don't know if it is better or not. Light weight wheels do have more effect than a lighter flywheel. your correct. ease up a little, i like spoon.

Our dealership doesn't really give a damn when it comes to aftermarket parts. If you have a ITR with a 100-shot of juice and a supercharger.. and you suspension is creaking, you're good.
Basically, if the faulty part can't be traced back to a modification other than OEM you're in the clear.

I now carry Fidanza flywheels instead of Comptech. Aside from the weight issue, Fidanza is 8lb. vs. 6.75lb... other reasons are:
1- Immediate availability. I can have them in 2 days even if they are not in stock.
Comptech takes a while. Oh, and if they don't have any in stock you'll be waiting for a WHILE.
2- Price difference. What's the Comptech? $449? The Fidanza is 33% cheaper($300.00) and it's excellent quality, just like the Comptech. If I didn't own two Comptech flywheels already, I'd be buying Fidanza for my personal vehicle.

Here is the only picture of it you will find since we took it at the SEMA show in Vegas.
We also have the Clutchmasters flywheel for $267.99 if you prefer aluminum, and/or more bang for the buck.
