Default Advice from thouse long time R owners....

Ok, here is the deal. I owe like 4k on the R and it is my only car. I don't want to sell the car because no car payments would be nice and I also don't want to buy a beater.

The car right now has a stock 4.4 FD in it. The bearings in the tranny are going out so I need to replace them.

So here is my question:

A) Keep the R and return it to stock, selling all my parts (B's - not installed, spoon calipers, etc...) and replace the tranny bearings. Then finish paying off the car and enjoy driving a stock R around.

B) Throw the B's in along w/ my old 4.9 FD and have some fun and just finish paying my loan with my usuall payment.

C) Say **** it, sell the R and take the bus.

Yeah I know, its all comes down to what I want to do, but I'm really torn on this. Part of me wants to get this thing going fast again because damn it was a fun ride. However, another part of me wants to get out of this and not have to deal with working on this bucket anymore.

I'm 90% sure i'm keeping the R now, mainly due to the no car payments soon. I've been making a car payment since I was 20 (27 now) and I could really use the money else where.

Thanks for the help guys, and the reason the title says long time R owners, is due to the fact that when I first got my R, I wouldn't have had a second thought in my mind about going with plan B, but after a few years of driving the R around, thoughts and goals tend to change.

No car payment would rock

Craig, in all honesty, my car was just as much fun, if not more so, when I took all the goodies out when preparing to sell it. All I had on there was the header, and it was a hoot to drive just like that.

I'm wondering now if I shouldn't have kept it

Although i haven't owned my r as long as some people, but i feel i should give my input on this. I dont know how you are doing socially (ie girlfriend/boyfriend) with getting married, or settling down or expecting a kid, or maybe you have one, think about what your priorities are. You could spend the cash with your family and make your child's life better, or you can decide to keep the car stock, and not put money into it anymore. YOu could also, put all your mods on the car and have a fun time yourself, but how happy will you be alone?

Best thing to do is:

Ask yourself where will i be down the road?

Doesn't really sound like you need help figuring out what to do....that sounds like a plan right there...

Got a girlfriend, she'll be sticking around for a while. Don't plan on having kids for a while (3-4 yrs), don't have any now. Already own a house and have a kick *** job which pays me very well, so i'm not hurting for money.

Splat: Thats what i'm sporting now, modded stock intake, jdm oem header and cat (which is shot, nice yellow light on the dash for about a month now). And it's pretty fun to drive, but figure since I've already got the B's and all the stuff for them (springs, gears, PE belt, injectors, etc...) I minus well throw them in.

I just don't know... I'll be ordering parts (bearings and water pump) from len today, so I have some time to think about it.

I also found out that progressive insurance has an option where you can get coverage on after market parts so I won't get screwed if something happens like I did with state farm (lost about 3k in parts.. ******* bastards).

Return it to stock. Def sell the calipers & B's. That should cut down on your remaining loan payoff by 1/2. I'd keep the ATS, if I were you. You'll miss that so much that you'll end up selling your R if you don't have them.

I went from I/C/H/E, suspension, seat, steering wheel + etc. to stock. Stock definitely feels slow & soft, but it still drives nice. I miss myseat & suspension though.

yeah, stock suspension is nice & soft... but, I miss the lowdowns. those were the ultimate daily driving suspension.

I would go back to stock, and enjoy the extra $... My (relatively) stock R is a great daily driver, and still very competitive on the track.

The final drive would be nice, but I like to go on long trips, so that's pretty much out of the question.

I guess the only "mod" I would add if I had the $ was a JDM header/heatshield, and a nice high flow cat. But stock is fine for now...

Nick
(who still owes around 6K on #386)

PS - I hate my stock seats though - they have to go...

Keep the R and sell off any un-needed parts that could wipe out most or all of your debt on the caR.

Since you have a black/ non visible R, your one step ahead of the crooks in the world, So keeping it low key is not that hard since you have it looking as plain as could be or did.

And once you clear up the money on the car and the title comes in your hands you will definitely feel a **** load better. I can't wait till the Arrr is paid off and the title resides in a frame on the wall

Once again, my caR is 90% stock and I just love driving it, any where, any time

I've had mine since 99, it will be paid off this November.

I've gone through bouts of "should I sell it?" over the years, but it still has the staying power. I've always owned a daily driver though, so every time I get into my R, it feels like a new car...

I say don't sell it, pay it off and keep it until it falls apart..

Everybody talking about going back to stock - but I can't imagine I would enjoy driving my car as much if it was still stock. If everybody wants to go back to stock, why make the mods in the first place?

Flux - who is happy with his modified R and will never go back

KEEP IT KEEP IT KEEP IT! Wait until it's paid off and then buy another car. Keep your ITR as a fun car and something that is not so annoying to drive everyday. I did this and I love it!
