Default clicking/staticy noise behind dash...?

every now and then, ie; in the morning when the car is cold, or randomly whenever the hell it feels like it I hear a staticy/clicking noise that is seemingly coming from behind the driver side tweeter grill. After or during the clickings my gauges all shut off for a couple seconds and come back on again, if the engine is on while this happens it dies too..

I remember reading about this problem in the past but i can't seem to find the thread, does anyone have any clue what is causing this crap @_@ .. starting to get a bit scary :x

thanks.

Just a shot in the dark here but are you sure the noise is not coming from your ignition switch shorting out at times ? They have been known to go bad with faulty or loose contacts inside, and would cause your symptoms and the engine cutting off, worth checking out.
