Default Need help regarding amps

Once again I must appolagize for another newbie question but what can I say, this is how you learn... Anyhow, I think I've decided on gettin a Kicker S12L7 sub and I was wondering if a Rockford Fosgate Type RF X6 would power it well and also if it simply was a good amp. Also the Kicker S12L7 is a 750W RMS sub and the X6 is a 1100W amp. And also another question, if I do get this S12L7 would it be better to get a higher powered amp and put it at say 2/3 of its power which would be around the RMS of the sub? Because if you get an amp like say the X5 which is a 700W amp it would be at its max and that is when most distortion is created which is obviously not good for the sub? Is this true? Anyways thanks alot in advance and sorry for so many newbie questions!
