F***KING TEIN, perches are serioulsy stuck, help.
i steamcleaned the RAs that have been off my car for over 6 months, and i went to remove the perches... after using 4ft breaker bars i was able to crack the perches but to my horror only the lower perch came free.
so now i have alower perch that is free moving, and an upper perch that is cemented on to the shock, i cant get leverage b/c the lower perch moves first. i dotn want to use heat b/c i dont want to damage the shocks in the process.
anyone know a trick? do i have to send these cross-country to tein?
btw: it doesnt help that the upper perch only has 2mm of materal that actually contacts the spanner wrench yet over a cm worth of threads to become bonded. i am really growing a hatred for this company.

How did I know this would come up......
Its not their fault you did not inspect, clean, and anti-seize the threads at regular intervals.

If you try all the above and can't get them to move.... order some perches from Tein and just cut off the old perches. Its fairly easy to do if you take a few seconds to do it carefully with a dremel and cutoff wheel.
Mine were seriously seized too. I used lots of liquid wrench and lots of torch heat. I put the shocks in a vice and hammered the tein wrench with a rubber mallet. It took about an hour for each shock.

I saw him do this - worked like a charm. So ease.

I had that same problem before. One perch was loosen but not the other. In that case, you would need a pipe wrench to hold on to the shock body (not the threaded part) then use the Tein wrench on the perch.
However, be prepared to have the shock body all scratched up by the pipe wrench.
If you want to keep the shock body nice and bling, buy an extra set of perch and cut out the seized one (as Splitime stated).

Exactly. I have had my Tein HA's in the salty michigan, for 2 winters now with zero problems. When I first heard of the tein's problems, when I got mine (used) I cleaned off anything that was on the threads, then coated the threads with a crap load of antiseize and ran perch up and down a few times. After I did my swap, front end was too low due to the added weight. I lifted my car up, got a shop rag and cleaned off anything that was stuck in the antiseize mess (and there was alot) then with the tein wrench, with no effort, raised them up. I then recoated the treads.
Then, this april, I was changing out my top bushings, so I took my teins out and cleaned them up. I took a rag and clean all the crap that had built up, then with a brisseled brush, got rid of any remaing antiseize that was in the groves of the threads. When I was finished, they seriously looked just like new. I then recoated them, then put them back on.
Its all about maintance.
Look at the two materials, the threads are steel, and the perch is Aluminum (at least on the HA's). When the 2 materials sit there for long enough, the two will seize togther. That is why you use anti seize

people expect to use race coilovers for normal street driving yet they dont bother to maintain them and blame the manufacturer when they have problems in the long run?
Thats like never changing your transmission fluid and then wondering why you need a new transmission after only 70k miles and telling honda to go **** themselves because your transmission broke.

ive never had a problem with mine either over 1.5 yera sold and mine have never gotten stuck..its all about routine maintence and cleaning..when you rotate your tires,do your breaks or whatever inspect your suspension and clean if necessary..i always wipe off the antisieze that i can see then take air and blow all the threads clean and then wipe again..then i move my perches all the way down,re-antiseize everything and move the perch's back to where they are supposed to be and tighten them down..ive had no problems and neither of my many friends who have tein..its your fault they are stuck..not teins

It's not Kevlar, its Teflon (same stuff that they use in frying pans so food doesn't stick)
Its alright. My freind has a set of Type Flex which have it, and he hasn't had any problems with them. He has gone one michigan winter with them.

ive actually been liquid wrenching it for the entire week, my apt smells like a garge now. it hasnt helped.
i am going to see if someone has a padded vice i can try.
and i have kept up with matenence as much as i could. removing coilovers to clean and inspect every month is not practical. if the perches were reinforced better i could get leverage on them without rounding off the teeth and surface that contacts the wrench. also these shocks are full aluminum not steel so i never thought twice about them rusting. i would visually inspect while on the car and the peeling hats were not apparant untill i disassembeld the coilover assembly.
as far as my opinions on tein in generall, i have gripes about the company only because the quality on every component is infererior to my zeal S6, and customer service at tein usa is non-existant in comparison to endless usa. i will write full review of superfuctions soon too, and if you guys would like i can include comparisons between the tein RA.
thanks for the help.
