I just did a swap and replaced the axels in the process. After I got the car running I drove up the road to the honda dealer and paid $10 to have them replace the oil in the tranny. Who better than Honda to know the correct amount of oil to replace and what kind is best. This is just my opinoin. Good Luck.

just use 10w-40. thats what the honda dealer told me to use, my neighbor is a honda mechanic and he also said to use it. he also recommended to use an oil additive called BG's for higher milage transmissions.
DO NOT use engine oil.
You must use gear oil, which is a totally different in composition.
Engine oil is detergent, you do not want that on your gears, there is no combustion
inside the transmission. Use Honda MTF.
I happen to have some experience on the matter.

I have been using regular 10-30 engine oil in my dads accord for the past 100.000 miles with no problems
but I'm sure the honda oil is probably better.

REDLINE = tranny death!
Usually in EF the crossshaft in the diff will die when using Redline MTL.
I've got two sitting here!
Bad pin.....
Good pin from 5g tranny, notice the heat treating.....

NO, NO, NO! You should use RedLine, but NOT the MTF and that was a problem.
You should use the RedLine Shockproof Ultralite gear oil (cost the same), with LSD additive if you have LSD.That will essentially be the best trans fluid for manual tranny that is available, and esp. good for very stressed motor (like turbo or NOS).
A lot of people make the mistake of running their MTF which is a bit thin whereas the Shockproof Ultralite is 70W0 with flow properties of lighter fluids.....

yeah i sound like im on crack, but the stuff works nice.
unless you can afford motul? hell find it even.
then wuts the gray bottle that say MTF manuel transmission fluid they have sitting with the honda oils and crap i dont know im not an expert or anything but i think its manuel transmission fluid in a honda dealers service dept. and the price was 3.80 for a quart
i was up at the dealer today and they said that a good motor oil 10w30 is just as good and that was the parts guy and my friend that works there said teh same so i dont know anymore
that reminds me, and being an amateur, are civics required to be maintained? i've never done any tranny fluid change before.
