Problem initial starting engine, or re-start after shutdown, please help.....
Hey guys,
heres some background info. i got a 93 civic hatch. everything stock. i have a clifford matrix rs3 remote starter. recently i have noticed that my car has trouble starting (will explain what exactly happens later on..). I have trouble starting my car in two cases.
Case 1 : Dont drive car alll day, try to start it, then it just grinds..
Case 2 : I shut down car for a minute or two, and try to start it again, and it wont start. ( for example i get gas...)
This is what happens when it doesnt start:
I basically turn my key in the ignition to start it, and then it just grinds (dont know if thats the correct word to use?!!?) And it would just keep grinding... its would make the noise that cars usually make when it trys to start but no ignition. sometimes when i let it stay for about 3-4min, and try again and it will start.
SOMETIMES, when i start the enigine, it will ignite and run like normal, but only for about no more than 10 sec. and it will shut down, and when i try to start it again i get that grinding noise again...
I seriously believe it is my starter. i dont think its my spark plugs b/c i just got new bosch platinum 4 prong ones about 10,000 miles ago...
If anyone had this problem before please tell me about your experience and what your guys think i should do. also if you guys could add what are the best spark plugs you can get for your money (thats just a totally diff. q, but im curious, thanks for all your help...

H-T is mainly for manual transmission cars......We don't deal alot with automatic, it's for wimps... you have no control of the engine....
And for your starting problem it could be your your electric system....did you check all your ground wires and spark plug wires?
Use a ohm tester...

what a crappy reply. does your engine make the grind noise every time or only once in awhile. usually a bad starter has a bad spot on the teeth that engage the flywheel or your flywheel could have a bad spot. when you say you drive it for awhile then it will not crank sounds alot like your starter solenoid is getting hot. check the wires from the battery to the starter terminal. look for corrosion and any other signs of a bad wire. old wires with corrosion will cause alot of resistance in the wire which will lead to a high amp draw on the battery which in turn will heat up the solenoid. if you have access to an amp meter you could check the draw. also you can take a regular volt meter, put the positive lead on the battery terminal and put the negative lead on the hot side of the solenoid and check for a voltage drop. anything more that a .5 volt you will need to replace wires. also check the connections for the remote start system. a loose connection will cause alot of unwanted problems.
thx for the info hellbilly, helped out, now i know what to look for.. well check it all out tom. and yes i do have access to all the electronic testing equipment. and a reply to the other guy, just cause H-T is only for "manual tranny cars" the same problem can arise in a manual car... okay bddy... i just wish more people had a view on this, but thanks guys..
