ATTENTION R TURBO OWNERS!
I'm just lookin for some advise. I got a 2000 PY R and want to turbo. I am lowering the compression of the pistons with JE 9:1 pistons and Eagle Rods. Anything else I would need to get a good setup. Should I change my clutch right away? I am only gonna be running about 8to10 for daily street driving then I want to be able to push atleast 14psi on the track. Any advise? What do you guys have? let me know, thanks.
If u have any plans in the future of increasing the boost, MAKE SURE to sleeve the block b/c sleeves will eventually expand due to boost. Get a block guard. With this setup, u have a bulletproof bottom end.

By the way high compression is not a bad thing for a turbo...you might want to think about this before you do it

Also: a big *** intercooler, and traction bars (you'll need them)

Why not just buy a LS. The ITR is a track car it is ment to have high compression.

I say Turbo all the way, one thing you might want to get with an R is a stand alone ECU, Hondata, TEC-ll, etc.....it makes things much easier

if he wants to turbo, it means he wants to drag race only. It;s cool, it's just not what the car was made to do. I know some fast turbo'd ITRs (TurboITR, TurboR616), but those are just drag cars. When I go to the road course, I see a lot of ITRs but I have only seen one with FI. The R is a road racer, not a drag racer. I agree with the comment about "just get an LS", no disrespect meant to my boys Marc and Gordon.
Hey guys ya I know the R is meant for track but around where I live there arent any. I am making it for a fun daily driver and a weekend drag racer. Didnt mean to get people all rowd up. Thanks for the comments guys.
Who are you to say what an R is ment for
That is the BIGGEST bunch of bullshit I have ever heard......just buy an LS what is that crap
he bought it so he can use it for whatever hes wants.

Also could you explain to me why you say "TURBO ALL THE WAY"
One last thing I have all good things to say about Hondata I have it in my car and it is great, and it is even better for turbo cars....never stop spooling.....that should sound good to any turbo owner.
we got one guy here in Florida, running 15 psi, full built, je & crower, lowered compression to 9.5:1 ( I think ) Runs 12.8 that I saw on slicks. Damn, it's fast
Wouldnt it suck to dump millions of dollars for parts on your R then have to replace the whole engine with a new one? Unless everythings goes perfect the first time then by all means. Im sure alot of people here have money trees in their backyard so hey, who cares if someone **** up your block trying to put shyt in and nothing was wrong with it in the first place. Im with the dude who said to buy an Ls and work on that. If I had the chance that's what i would have done. Live and learn....
although I dont know a Ton about Turbo, theres a few things i understand.. but somebody correct me if im wrong...
What would be the point of a "Big *** Turbo"? If you are running high comp...(ON A HONDA MOTOR) you would never be able to boost that much, and use the "Big *** Turbo" to its full potential...
Actually, like 10:1 isnt bad for boost, esp for a big *** turbo as it will help spool it faster. It all comes down to tuning.
Actually some racers are running 15-20+ psi with 10:1 compression. Even a t3/t04 is a little large for most hondas, so a little higher compression with some good tuning will be better than 9:1 compression. Why do you think turbo GSRs spool that turbo sooner than, say, an LS motor?
I say the R is made to do what I want it to do, not Honda or what others think its made to do.
I agree that in order to fully take advantage of all the parts, and frame work Honda did to the R, you would have to track or road race it. However its your car and do whatever you want with it as long as its some sort of racing. Hense the type R stands for type Racing! Not type Showing!

I'm just saying there are better ways to spend your $$ if all you're looking for is straight-line speed. All these drag-racers boosting their Rs could just as easily buy an F-body or a used Supra, but they don't. Why? because the ITR has some teenage boy appeal to it that the other cars don't have. For the same amount of $$ you spend on the ITR itself, lowering the compression, maybe replacing the tranny, and a new engine after you blow the first one, you could buy one of the other cars I mentioned and be running 10's. But then you wouldn't have a car as "cool" as the ITR...
yeah buts its their money and they want a type R, not a supra or F-body. Why does someone spend thousands on a old VW bug to hit 15's when it could be spent on a true dragger? Because they can and they will.
I wanted to do all type's of racing which is why I JRSC'd and built my old setup. With a turbo, you can make a track or other race setup, however if you want tons of power (350+whp) it might get kinda crazy in a turn.
Anyway if people want to boost, NOS, cam, build, etc... let them do it. If they are waisting their money, etc... then oh well thats what they want and I'm sure they are well awair of it when their doing it.
As for straight-line racing, again its RACING. type RACING. So in a way their are doing what the car was made for I guess. The only thing that kinda odd is buying a car and modding it out to just show it and never drive it. But then again its their money and their car so who am I to say otherwise.

ok, for the shoulda bought a LS comment, i think were all sick of that. maybe he loves his type r. i know i love mine, and while a ls is a nice car too, ill just keep what i have. i would never trade it for a LS, and i damn sure dont have the cash to just go pick one up.
BTW......i auto X my turbo R. maybe its not as competetive in its class as a stock R, but i dont do it for championships, i do it because its a blast.
