as i stated i currently have a p28 and can get it chipped if needed or should i just use the jdm p30 ecu. which would be better performance wise?
all depends on the current mods of the motor/car. if the motor is stock, stay stock no point pumping in more fuel/or extending rev limits. if you want something thats streetable for the P30, spoon programs will work rather well, it still relies on the knock sensor.
An ECU meant for your motor (p30)
or an ECU meant for a SOHC VTEC with a random chip that was designed for a motor that isn't yours...
HMMMMMMMM is it really that hard to figure out?

<Lax...who never understood why people put p28's in their B16 swaps

Because if you get a chip appropriate for your car then its fine, but if the motor is stock, there is no need for an ECU chip. Most people get P28's for their DOHC VTEC swaps when they convert to OBD-1. IMHO, people should use V-AFC's or standalone engine management systems like hondata instead of ecu chips anyways.

I actually think people use chipped P28's because P30's are also harder to come by and are more expensive overall....
Bauley, explain to me why it would be bad to use a P28 chipped with the fuel maps and vtec control for a P30 using lets say uberdata? Besides the fact that you can disable knock sensor and yaddy yaddy...

I plan on using the p30 and wiring up the knock sensor but i heard a lot of people use a chipped p28 ecu to bypass the knock sensor pretty stupid to me because the sensor is there for a reason. just wanted someone to explain this to me.

I don't quite understand your question...

I am running a Mugen programed P28 n my B16 hatch and I put a friends P30 in and tested it and hands down the chipped P28 was better. Better throttle response, better fuel curves! The only mods I have to the car are I/H/E, test pipe and an ITR manifold.

If you are concerned about gas mileage at all, steer clear of the chipped P28. I was running a chipped P28 and the P30 has a huge advantage in gas mileage. The performance difference was noticable but nothing amazing.
well if the p28 had the same fuel map as the p30 you should be getting the same gas mileage, unless u have the infamous eBay Mugen chips--which only dumps more fuel into your engine and really nothing more...
