Default Chipped ecu vs reprogrammed by skunk ecu

Im in the market for buying a new P28 ecu. I can go with a chipped P28, like from EBay or buy a P28 and send it to Skunk2. I was wondering if there were any differences in the two, because I would like to save a couple of hundreds of dollars.

thanks, anyone else have any different experiences?

I was thinking that you are just buying a generic program either way. You can get a ecu tailored to your set up, hondata or whatever, but I think a generic program is good enough for lightly modded all motor cars. Ya feel me? Then get a V-AFC to do the trick. Whats all the hype with hondata and all motor cars? You got to be pumping at least over 200whp to get your moneys worth. IMO

not necessarily.... even if you were only making around 185 to the wheels, any type of stand alone would be better than a chipped factory ecu....

either way, it seems like you know what you want.... good luck.....

eddie...

It all depends on how the ecu program or the standalone is tuned for your setup...going with a generic chip will just waste gas...trust...and with all the ebay chips and chippers out there...why send the ECU to skunk2 when the program they will throw in the car will likely be available on ebay for hundreds cheaper. Ever notice how many guys are running Skunk2 and Mugen programs? If your tuner doesn't know crap tuning the standalone then its going to waste as well.

Go with something tuned specifically for your setup, it will cost more than running a $20 chip, but it will be worth it. Check my sig, we can help you out!
