Hey guys...

I have a Q.

I've been told that a JDM D15B VTEC is better and a bit more torque then any D16's. and the JDM D15B VTEC has a better bottom end
Whitch one should I go for and why?
Reason: don't wanna spend to much $$ and just want some i can play with

Any help and suggestion is appreciated

go with the d16z6 i think the d15b is overrated cause every dyno ive seen from them sucked...and ive seen lots of y8's throw rods and spin bearings....can find a good z6 for around 200-400.

 

If your going NA get the d15b, if your going to boost it get the z6.

 

why for n/a do you say d15b???

 

I have an si and blew my stock z6 and replaced it with a d15b... I personally like the d15b better. I don't more about more torque but it does have slightly more hp. It revs nice and freely (my lightened flywheel probably helps with that). The bottom end is basically a vx with a z6 head, so the bottom end isn't as beefy as a z6. It has very decent acceleration for a sohc but lacks in top end. That can be dealt with, with some bolt-ons and tuning. For me, this is just a "get me by" for a year, year and a half until I can get a B! For the time being I'm very happy with it and don't regret getting it over a z6 at all... As far as price goes the are both very close to the same. It's a great motor not to mention there are probably more d15b's in good shape around than z6's. Good luck with whatever you decide, my vote is for the d15b!

Wrong, d15b has the same rods as a z6, it shares the same BLOCK as a vx but internally its the same as a z6.

d15b consistently puts down stronger numbers than a z6 or y8 and best of all it revs much faster. Anyone that has ever raced me when i was just I/H/E swore i had a b16 and made me pop my hood to prove it. go with the d15b vtec, you wont be dissapointed.

damn buddy... i stand corrected about the rods, I was told otherwise and haven't had to replace the rods so never really had to look into what I would need. Don't take it personally! I give the d15b mad props, the motor rocks! Again d15b fo' life foo!

 

kind of crazy how none of those crazy dohc peeps havnt said "GO DOHC INSTEAD"

I thought I was getting a d15b for a while and ended up finding a d16z6. Both good motors, both better boosted..Cant wait...

 

Couldnt find a decent priced d16 around here, so I'm goin with a d15b (order goes in friday ).

Yeah same internals except the small fact it's a 1.5L instead of 1.6L they obviously have different strokes. And I believe the D15B has smaller rob bearing journals than D16's. Same rod length although dif bearing journal size, so they aren't interchangable like you hinted

 

damn, i absolutely loved my d15b... so much that i'm going to get another one, this time with even more bolt ons.

with an intake, header and p28, i took 99si's all day long. my cousin's swapped b16 hatch also was only a car length in front through 4th gear... both from rolling starts too...

for d16z6 vs. d15b, i say d15b stock for stock. if you plan on getting some mods onto the d16, then its gotta be a cam.... right away.

you say you just want something 'to play with'.... and thats fine and just happens to be the exact position i'm in. if you're low on cash, the d15b shines like no other

indeed while, as in '01, I did few test, and run the cam in my EG, basically E/H/ECU setup made 117whp, after the cam top end jumped to 121whp, gains past 6k rpm good to about to 7.5k rpm. This was with no tuning, just a simple drop in.

LOL i have to say this! GROW SOME *****! go DOHC! but just my .02cents...get a z6 and buy a d15b cam...

I say go for whatever engine you can find in better condition out of the two, and which is the best value for money (ie. condition/price ratio).

How do the JDM engines run on your guys low octane fuel? I dont run my d15b on anything less than 98 octane (although mines boosted).

If this was true than anyone with a d15b would have to order custom rods for their motor.... d16z6 eagle rods and acl d16z6 bearings seem to be working fine for the rest of the masses.

BTW im not being a dick, yes im cocky but i hate when people spread false information.

 

So D16z6 rods/ pistons will fit a D15b??!

uh... I am like the hugest fan of a single cam D series motors... ask any of my friends... i just poped out of the 3rd gen Lude Stage (b20a5 POS dual cam) and i woulda swaped any D series available into it instead, i bought a EG coupe with a z6 ... well there both vtec right? i'm gonna go with z6 ... cause i have one.. (FINALLY!)

 

Isn't a D16Z6=1.6L stock with a lower compression ratio than D15b, so just bump up the compression ratio with a Y8 head gasket, Better numbers than a D15b close to B16A
D15b=1.5L stock with higher Compression ratio than D16Z6

And a B16A=1.6L stock with a higher Compression ratio, that why it has more HP and more details blah blah about DOHC...Still a 1.6 Liter engine...

D16z6 bottom end with a d25b head. My z6 head went caput so I had to replace it.

The masses huh? Funny how I've never heard this... has anyone else? cause everything I have ever read about the D15B and the D15z1 says the have the same rods. And the rods DO have smaller bearings on the z1 and if the D15B has the same ones, well just a blind shot...I'm guessing they're smaller.

And yes you're a dick and yes you are cocky, and I too hate it when people spread false information. And i didn't say I was positive, I said I believe, and everything I've read leads to me to that, and I have read a lot. You were already wrong once so I would like to see some proof on what you say
