H-22 intake manifold for h-22 civic hybrids
does anyone know wtf skunk 2 will have their intake manifold foir us hybrids. i wanna go with the euro accord, but i dont want to worry about the mods. i have skunk 2 valvetrain/retainers and cams and i liek them so i wanna keep with them.
From pictures that I've seen, both the Skunk2 and the Euro-R intake manifolds would be too big for 92-00 Civics, which is a shame. The Skunk2 IM has fitment issues on Preludes let alone our puny cars... the install pics show the IM almost hitting the firewall and attached components.
I think our only hope would be to go with a different set of motor mounts. HCP/Hasport seem to push the engine as far back as possible (weight balance and performance reasons I assume) BUT it kinda limits our choices for aftermarket intake manifolds.
Does anyone actually have a different IM in an H22 EG or EK chassis, not incl ITB's?
ps- why would you worry about the Skunk2 valvetrain/cams not working with the Euro-R IM?

That thing where they flow the abrasive compound through it would be best (ports everywhere in it, not just the parts you can see...and its even)...can't remember the name right now...

You can always take a hammer to the firewall.
I have heard of people who custom make their own mounts and pound in the firewall in order to get a near-perfect axle angle.

hes talking about extrude honing it, it would be an exelent option for the stock or any mani, but its wicked expensive, but then again they can enlarge the whole mani an runners to the same thicknes to like +/- .001 and they can make some insane surface finishes
There are places that can do it locally usually. Yes Extrude Hone was the name...but thats the official company that started it. Getting a generic "abrasive porting" will work just as well, as certainly better than any die grinder work (assuming the normal shape is good).
30mm isnt enough room? when i did an h22/eg swap i could slide my closed fist behind the IM. hell, we even put AC back onto the car, with no interference problems.
why would you want an IM with longer runners? thats gonna cost you power on the top, and the h22 makes too much bottom end torque for you to worry about making more. you want an intake manifold with runners about 3" long, shooting at a slight upward angle, this way the injector sits lower and can shoot a smoother stream more towards the back on the intake valve, for better valve cooling and atomization.
but then again, when that h22 civic went to the local drag strip, everybody thought the swap was done by Honda themselves.

With most of the mount kits out there (hcp and hasport being the main ones) there is a little manifold to firewall clearance, but there is almost no manifold to brakeline clearances. With my hcp kit and stock h22 intake manifold, the the tps sensor was VERY close to one of the brake lines and only cleared because of the way it was bent from the factory. Now the hasport kit generally puts the motor farther forward more giving you alittle more firewall to manifold clearance. There is enough clearance for the EURO R manifold with an h22 civic, but the problem is that the IACV, mounted in its stock location, hits the brakelines. And since you need to use an adapter bracket to mount a two wire IACV on the manifold, it pushed the IACV even farther out. So you have to either rebend the brake lines or run a remotely located IACV. I do not know how the much different the Skunk2 manifold is from the EURO R manifold, but I think it is going to have the same fitment issues with IACV as does the EURO R manifold in civic engine bays.
Ok after seeing the pics of the manifold, I see they got around the fitment issues by relocating the IACV off the manifold. The manifold looks pretty good. Too bad there isn't any EGR.
O well...better performance right? Hehe.
