***oem engine color???***
sup guys,
im going to be painting my motor (block, head and intake manifold) since its out and getting rebuilt, i might as well do some cleaning on it and try to make it look as new as possible. i was just wondering what kind of paint and color have u guys used to match the oem color as close as possible. ive tried a couple of colors already but they are not even close to looking like that oem flat silver. pics would also be nice if you guys have done it to your motor. please let me know. thanks....TIA

engine is extremely dirty. i scrubed it clean like 3 times and it still has that dirty grey look. i was hoping the cleaning would make it look almost new but i guess i have to paint it to get the look im looking for (new oem color).
You really should grab wire wheel for a drill... and get all the **** off there. If that dosent work... then i would go to paint... you might also want to try some heavy duty parts solvent... unfortunately the aluminum stains really easily.

The aluminum can be polished and will look bad-***. Find a local chrome plating or powdercoating shop near you and see if they have the polishing baths with the plastic polishing beads.

If you just wish to clean it, and not polish it, muriatic acid (aka hydrochloric acid) will remove the oxidation. But it will come back as it naturally oxidizes. The oxidation, Al203, is a hard ceramic and actually protects the aluminum from further corrosion. In fact, oxidized aluminum is considered corrosion resistant. But anyway, as long as it is out and you wish to have it look as new as possible, take up adrenaline-racing's idea of a polishing and seal it.
