Default Removing Tailgate Upper and Lower Trim Panels (CRX)

Hey guys, I've got a repair manual but I'm still having a bitch of a time with this and I'm wondering if anyone with experience could help me.

What I'm having problems with are the inner trim panels attached to the rear hatch (tailgate).

From what I got out of the repair manual, these need to come off in order for me to have access to the wiring, otherwise I would have to cut the wires in half at the grommet.

Well to say the least, if I can't figure out how to get these trim panels off soon, I just might cut the damn wires and hope that some decent connectors will do the mending.

I've marked my problem areas in red... Am I just tupid? I can't figure out how these clips work. Do I somehow get the lower trim panel off first and the upper comes off after that easily? My problem areas are marked in red.

Well guys I've decided to do it the absolute wrong way.

I'm just going to cut the wire harness and then hook it back up using a Molex connector. Hopefully that works.
