How to get ins. money istead of them fixing???
I had recently gotten in an accident nothing major as some of you may know. I estimated the damage to be somewhere in 2K-1500 (not including my rims which konig does not make no more) but this includes my passengerside axle, ft bumper, fenders, cf hood, lights and repainting them also i think theyre called the connecting arms in the front lost a bolt and/or broke. Of course this estimate was with me repairing my own car. But now the PREFERED body shop of my ins. co. said that they estimate damage to be at least 8K (as in thousand) wow!!
So my question to you guys is ? How do I get or tell my ins. to just give me the money? With out it seeming like ill just take the money cuz its alot and then ill just end up keeping it. ya know what i mean???
well if you guys have any tips or ways that youve done it let me know and help a fellow honda lover out.

get an estimate, and they will cut you a check.
Well you see the question that i have is this Before i took it to a body shop i had talked to the lady at my ins. co and asked her if they could just make a check out for the damages and she said that no that ins would rather just fix the car. now that they are going to get this quote from theyre PREFERED shop of 8big ones how do i tell her no i just want the money. Has an ins. co ever refused you guys the money and istead just fixed the car???
you don't tell em you want the money
you give them the quote, and they ask if you want the check made out to you, or the body shop
at that point you say "me"

yes yes yes but i am very happy with an 8k estimate since i can fix every thing for about 2500. I dont even want to take it any where else i just want them to give my the money SHOW ME THE MONEY. How or what do i tell them to just give me the money!

ROFL.......I agree.....in fact I tried to get an insurance co to send the check to the body shop and they wouldn't. They mailed me the check.....tell them that you are dropping it off and to send you the check.....done. KIT so we know how it goes.

Tell them you don't trust the shop that they want to send it to, and you'll gladly spend more money out of your pocket, but inorder to do so, you need to have the INS company cut the check to you inorder to cover expenses.
don't tell them straight up that you want the money. then they won't give you the larger estimate. say you don't wanna deal with that shop because you are more familiar with your shop and would rather stick to something you've done business with before. just make it seem like you wanna get the car fixed. and if they send it to the body shop, then maybe you can have them give you the money... that's what i did.
Sorry to say this but I highly doubt you will get anything close to 8K for the insurance settlement. I've dealt with 2 major insurance carriers (State Farm and Mercury) and it seems as though they have different procedures but they basically have shops they have approved to give estimates and do the work. If you want to go to another shop (like the one that quoted you $8K), they will go there and negoitate a reasonable price to pay that shop. You can get a cash settlement but it will be a figure much more reasonable or you can work something out with the body shop.

Wow, your ins. company is willing to give you 8 grand to fix your car?
When my buddy wrecked his integra they claimed it totaled gave him 12 grand and then let him buy the salvage title for 2grand for some reason... Of course his title history is less than ideal, but it was more than enough to get the car fixed...

let's put it this way....the insurance company won't give you more to fix your car that what the car is worth....so unless your 92 hatch is worth $8000, your car will be totaled and sent to the junk yard.....people that scam their insurance companies don't realize what a $8000 claim will do to their future rates....yeah...they will skyrocket....take it from somebody that tried....I pay $812 every 6 months on a 92 CX 70hp monster...and that is for liability only...I was quoted $2200 every 6 months on a 96 Civic EX for full coverage...so unless you want to pay more in the future, just get your car fixed and don't try to be a con artist
