There was just a topic on tranny fluid..... https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=931423
Anyways, I'm using Motul Gear300 (75w90), no problems here. Any synthetic fluid should do - the Honda fluid is a 75w80, just do some research on the viscosity of the fluid you're looking to use to make sure its not too thick (90w is a big range).

Before you start power shifting on your ITR tranny...Maybe you should do what the best drivers in the world do and shift with two finger tips and perfect being smooth with your shifts.

Which is a 75w80 gear oil equivalent. Motul gear 300 would be a 10w40 equivalent.

Honda doesnt recommend using motor oil anymore for any length of time - some of the anti-wear additives used in the MTF cannot be used in Engine oil (to meet current specifications, I think SJ), so Honda sells MTF. Its non-detergent 10w30 motor oil with a few additives, nothing special. The "honda" oil is made by Mobil as well, but again its nothing special - better oils out there for the money.

Why do you say that?
Motul sells "Gear FF" for cars with a clutch type diff.

For the street, sure... Honda mtf is shear happy. I tried it in my car for several track events - at first it felt great but after one weekend it felt notchy and if I left it in 2 weekends it would grind in 2nd/3rd gear once it got hot.
new http://theoildrop.server101.co...00000
brand new the viscosity is 11.26 which is halfway up the 30wt scale.
used http://theoildrop.server101.co...00562
after approx. 22,000 miles the viscosity is 6.63cst@100C which is a low 20wt.

some people just think they can feel a difference....personally i don't know how rj would even know if his tranny is getting hot....he hasn't touched a rumble strip ever....nor is he on the gas until track out....so.....i think the fluid feel in his "notchy tranny" is just the rocks floating in his head!!

How often are you changing it?
I would not use the OEM MTF in a track/race car same as I would not use the OEM brake fluid or engine oil. It may work for some, but it is shearing and breaking down.

Has nothing to do with the vicsosity.
I will have a temp strip on my case for VIR to see how hot it is getting in there.

*shrug*
Take it for what you will, I know what my experience has been but I am not the original owner of the car - although I have no reason to believe it was abused by the previous owner.
If I left the fluid in longer than one weekend it would grind pretty bad if i tried to go into 2nd and sometimes 3rd gear (when hot, not on the street ever), and the problem went away when I switched to a better fluid, and I am running longer drain intervals as well on it - and saving money in the end. Unless of course I was just imagining that one too.
