All 6th Gen Honda Accord Owners....come in
Well, I have a 2001 Honda Accord and I bought it with 46k and about a month after purchase, the transmission started slipping. I took it to Honda and they fixed the Solenoid (or something) valve which was causing problems. They told me that the transmission was replaced prior to me buying it. I never knew that. I know that they extended the warranty and everything but what am I suppose to do if it goes bad after the warranty. This is suppose to one of the best cars..according to some people. I just have fear because it's at 69k....a lot of highway miles. The way I drive, I'll be at 100k in no time. I take care of it. I had my AT flush at 60k and i'm thinking about doing it again 75k. What do you guys think I should do? Should I trade it in for something else? Should I keep it and see if it last? If you guys have any 1998-2002 Honda's and they are still running well, please give me some good advice. Thanks
My transmission blew as well. It was replaced because it was under warranty. These trannies are terrible, and they dont want to admit it
If you don't want to worry about this later on, i'd get a manual transmission from a higher end car (6th gen accord is a base, maybe an acura CL or TL if it fits) and swap it in. The manuals are much stronger.
If you don't want to do that, replace the transmission fluid every 15,000 miles, and install a transmission cooler to make sure it's running optimally.

I really don't have any experience with this since all Honda's I've ever owned have been manual. However, my friend's '97 Civic was having similar problems. I'd just go to a trusted Honda shop and take their advice. Make sure it's good advice though and not just a scheme to ge tyour money. Do your research.
is you car a v6 or a 4cyl? if its a v6 then its been known that our trannys are crap. some peoples trannys slip and eventually need replacing but some doesnt.
i'd just keep bitching to get another tranny replacement if you still have problems. the extended warranty was till 100k i thought, if that's correct then you should still be covered regardless of previous repairs.
if you're not having trouble any more, and are just worried, then flushing the tranny every 30k (or more if you want) and installing a tranny cooler (~$60) are both good investments

yep, another trans problem! go figure! my 6th gen V6 is on its 3rd! thats right 3rd trans! and the worst part is, that my mom drives it more than me! i NEVER beat on it, race it , ect... the first one went a 30k, second went a 55k, and i have not had any probs, with this last one YET?
. I have been changing the trans. fluid every 10k, for the last 30k. so far, so good. i will keep you guys and gals posted if anything changes.
as for the best accord yet, i say yes and NO. i love the suspension, but with three trannies under my belt, i drive with my fingers crossed!

Wow, that doesn't sound too good replacing it that many times. I think I will try to get rid of it. I really don't know what to get now since that is the only car I want at the moment. What were those Jap's thinking...LOL? Did they get lazy on us? My car isn't acting up (knock on wood) right now but i'm just thinking ahead. If it does, I hope it does it before 100k. I will look into the tranny cooler though. I never heard anything about it but I will check it out. Thanks guys

and this is why i am so glad i got a 6th gen with the manual trans. Sounds like some of you guys are having a horrible experience. I would just keep on bitching to honda to see if they will help you. Otherwise buy a 6th gen with a manual or buy another car.
if you have a 98 or 99 you should be fine. These two years have the least problems with tranny's. I've owned 2 so far and me second one seems to fine and it is a v6 as well. My first one which was a 4banger had no probs at all and i beat the **** out of it. Im hoping i dont run into any tranny probs with my v6 though.

I have a '99 with ~ 65,000 miles on it, with a 5 speed manual. No problems, though I am due for a transmission fluid change (I've had it for 5.5 years, it's supposed to be done at 5 years or 90,000 miles, if I remember right).
Didn't Honda extend the warranties on some of it's vehicles due to automatic transmission problems? You might try a google search.

by the way, summit racing has a decent oil cooler/ filter relocation kit, for around $110.
good luck with your trannies.
and keep bitchin at honda!

All of us 4 cylinder guys, manual or auto, shouldn't be having any problems at all. These trannies are solid. The only ones that are screwed are the Honda/Acura V6 4 speed auto trannies.

It is not true. My 98 Lx I4 is having tranny problem. Checked with my co-worker, his 99 V6 is not good either.
Take a look at http://www.petitiononline.com/acura/petition.html with all comments.
I thought my is safe coz the I4, now I am stucking with the big repair bill.

I dont know if im wrong or not but i think the first v6 accord trannies were defective and had to be sent back to be fixed or they just extended the warrenty or something but i may be mistaken, and anyway urs was replaced before it you bought it
I just bought a 01 v6 29k and the 3rd shifts hard and I can feel a slight slip, like it's downshifting. Does anyone know the BEST ATF fluid that would help for slipping and hard shifting
I am a tech at honda and yes there is a problem with the automatic transmissions in accords crv's tl's cl's and mdx's. the problem begins with 2nd gear, its not getting the proper amount of lubrication. this is a major problem as many will notice a slip as 2nd gear becomes worn faster than others.if the trans has under 15000 miles on it then honda installs a 2nd gear update kit which is what we in the shop call a jet kit. this update consists of an extra jet that sprays atf directly on 2nd gear. If the vehical has over 15000 miles on it we have to do a few tests and actually take a photo of the 2nd gear and send it to honda. we also strain the fluid through a paint strainer and send the fluid off if necessary. If you have any problems with your auto and it is under 100,000 miles take it to the dealership. extended warranty.
and remember this puts a lot more work on me because warranty pay sucks but I thought it would help.
after the recall is performed make sure you keep up with your service schedule at the dealership that installed the update. The dealership will really bend for someone that has maintained a good service record.
Honda is still the best

Best $50 you could spend. Your tranny will love you for it.
130-70255
If you live somewhere that gets real cold during winter months, you can cover it up so the fluid don't turn into a 7-eleven slurpie.....
