Default Jumpy Tach

ok, I did a search on tach's already and didn't really get much out of it. So, heres the problem, when I acclerate my tach is fine up to about 4000rpm, but past that it sparatically jumps up(all the way to the top; 8000). I cant really tell where to shift, except by sound, wich works pretty well but I wouldnt mind having a tach thata doesn't jump around so much, kinda diverts my attention from the road ...lol
thanks ahead for the imput

must be hitting boost... j/k sometimes ive heard that if your tach wire is tapped for something else it can cause the stock tach to jump around like that
