just put in a y7 in my 97 ek , ...this is it....

My car came with a d16y8 (vtec) ...it blew so i needed a replacement real quick, i found a cheap y7 and put it in myself. I used the old wiring harness and ECU from my y7 (vtec) motor, now with this one, i can never rev past 5500rpm. when i hit the gas full throttle it goes to 5500 and then it sounds like im redlining it. Does this have anything to do with it throwing out VTEC at that time or anything? is it fuel...what? because this is a non vtec motor....does that have anything to do with it?

 

anyone got an idea?

 

What ECU did you use? The vtec ecu or the y7 ecu? Just use the y7 ecu and you should be fine.

 

What ECU are you running? This might be the problem if you are still running the EX/D16Y8 VTEC ECU. It probably has fuel maps for VTEC which is probably why your motor is running like ***. What did you do with the VTEC wiring by the distributor?

 

im still running the y7 ECU, i got one off ebay from somone with a y7 engine (i think) but since i used the old y8 wiring harness...not all of the plugs matched up. so i didnt use it. so i use the old one anyway even if some crap dosnt hook in?

 

damn i messed this crap all up, i read what i wrote. I'm still using my Y8 Wiring Harness and my Y8 ECU, this block is a y7 hooked to a y8 tranny.

 

haha the Wiring by the dist. cap hahaha I just mounted them out of the way and they arnt hooked into ****. lol is that really bad?

ahh come on, no one knows anything else, should i try and hook up the DX ECU that i bought off of ebay to my y8 wiring harness even though not all of the plugs match up? come on

 

You need to use the y7 ecu.

if your running the y8 ecu then that is your problem, that ecu wants to see a vtec solenoid,
and it wants to change over to vtec at 5500 rpm,
if it cant,
the engine is just going to stumble.
what do you mean the plugs dont match?
the ecu plugs? the ecu harness shouldnt have been changed out at all.


also make sure you plugged everything into the right place. of course the vtec related plugs will remain unplugged.
but there are various sensor plugs that look identical but go to different things.
double check that.

 

find out which wires on the harness are the wires for vtec and bypass them so that it is not wanting to read the crossover at 5500. just a temporary fix until you can get it fixed.

put in the DX ecu,
it'll be easier than monkeying with your wiring,

dont use a freakin vtec ecu for your nonvtec motor and then try and fool it into not using its vtec.

just use THE RIGHT ECU
you already have it so I dont see why your still messin around
