Default B20+P8R+404= One Happy Fother Mucker! :)

Hey all just got back from my break-in/road test with my new 404's and spring kit. All i can say is Right on!! Down low (as expected not tuned and all) It feels almost identical to the B20 cams. But 4-4.5k and it screams. I thought it would be alot worse with the 8.8bottom end, which leaves me to belive I might have a good one? Anyway, Oh yeah... the idle. WAAAAAYYYYY to over played, man my 53 year old dad said it wasen't even that bad. These cams are totaly streetable and worth it!with tunning I wont be surprised If it idles 90% stock. If anyone has questions post em up!

404's

What other mods do you have? What kind of tranny? How much did you pay for the springs, retainers, and cams?

What kind of springs and retainers?

I have a B20B4 as well and I'd like to pick a set of these up...

For other mods I got just bolt ons, DC 4-1 (2.5), CAI, Custom 2.25Ex no Cat. Timming set to 18Deg.

Springs are the Crower Dual /w Ti retainers.

MyTranny is stock Soon Gsr or ITR - oh man there goes my fuel economy.

Well im in canada so Im not sure if it makes a diff in overall price but In CDN dollars 570 cams and 488 springs/Ret.. Hope that helps...

Side note: Im not sure if my head's larger valves are helping me or not right now My comp needs to be raised, Which in time (Next year) I should have a built bottom to match it up to.

Came with my JDM B20 bottom end. It must have come as an option in J-land but which car I cant figure out. I think its the CRV judging from the tall Intake manifold. Its a '97 motor.. Other than that I have no clue Just keep your eye open for them at your local Importers...

404's are awsome i have then in my b18b and love them. untuned they took over a 1/2 sec. of my 1/4mile time and added 2 mph. i have my idel set at 900 and it is not that bad. lopy idle is cool

hey Actually yeah I have gotten it on a Dyno. dyno used was a mustang Dyno and it seemed to spit out low numbers. For eg My openning run was 106WHP lol but my timming was 42deg advanced (which Is really wierd Im not sure how it happened) and i was down to 11:1 air/fuel at 4500rpm. So Just by adjusting the timing to 18 and flattening the a/f i hit 124@6000 and 114@5300. So minimal tunning I should be right now about 140whp on a dynojet. Im going back later with a fuel pressure reg/cam gears looking for 130whp on the mustang dyno. To compare a swapped civic had a B18B with shortram and the rest stock run 105WHP @ 5700 so the dyno reads low but I got 19whp over it so Im happy. Keep in mind this is with Low CR pistons 8.8 + the P8R which has bigger chambers further reducing comp. So I cant wait for the numbers when I build my bottom end! Hope that helps.

Edit: Forgot to add. For further comparrison an EK with a JDM B18c(R) swap with I/E ran 140WHP, and then 148 with some tunning so Im not that far off. I just need some damn compression. but the Butt dyno loves my cams.

P.S. I dont got a scanner so I cant show the graphs.

Wow those are some nice numbers Darkane, I really appreciate the reply. Those numbers are looking good. There is a Sport Compact Car article in a recent issue where they compare dynos with the same car and come up with a correction factor, I am looking for it. As soon as I can find it, I will post the correction factor they came up with. Thanks again

I have a B20Z in my sol right now and a B16 with a messed up crank. I was thinking of swapping the head or selling it and getting cams. However, I think that I will probably just go with the head swap. For some reason one of the intake valves on the number 1 cylinder comes loose (valve clearance) and I have to re-adjust it. So I was just thinkig now of having the VTEC head rebuilt and I would swap it on myself. I really appreciae the input though

yeah no prob. The problem with the non-V is drivabilty after going larger than the 404's so 405 and up. Still it can be done with a lot of tunning but maybe i'll sell my 404's next year and go with 405a with 11.5-12:1CR and see how it goes.. might have to buy a winter beater

I've got a B20B with GSR gears. Can't wait to get some of these cams. Gotta get my ITB's running right first.
