I'm just a regular driver and know nothing about car. Everything for my car is done in the shop except for car wash That is why I bought Accord for less hassle.

I got the 2003 Accord LX last year Sept and now it is reaching 15k. (I did the first maintenance at 9k at Honda dealer). Do you think i need to go to dealer for maintenance or wait until 20k as stated on the manual (I live in SF bay area so it is under Normal Condition).

The oil change every 10k looks kinda long (i used to hear every 3k for oil change for my old car), what do you guys think? Again, I know nothing technical about this. Any advises will be appreciated

 

BTW, I called three honda dealers around here (within 15 miles of driving), they quoted 15k maintenance for $119, $125 and $175. Do you think this is expensive or reasonable in SF bay area? I think the $175 is just too much.

 

Since you don't have any problems with taking your car into the dealer, then I would suggest changing your car oil under the severe conditions (3,750). I mean SF bay area and all those damn hills and such. I would just go by what the manual says because if you have a warranty issue then the manual will stand by your side if the dealer tries to say that you haven't been keeping up on maintenance. 15K maintenance? What does all that include?

 

Actually, for the 03 Accord the regular condition term is 10 k and severe condition at 5 k. I would do it at 5 k no matter whatcondition you drive the car. Regarding the 15k schedule, there is a lot of VISUAL inspection, but generally ,the oil change is the most important.

 

Although I'm in SF bay area but not in the city. Most of the milage are freeway milage. Since the 15k maintenance is mainly oil change, do you think it is ok to be done by others or it is best to have it done by the dealer ($$$)?

 

If your interests are to make sure you don't (100% and without a doubt) violate any of the Honda warranty stuff , then I would suggest taking it to Honda. If you want to save yourself some money, then do it yourself or have someone else do it, but just keep all of the receipts for the parts and labor.
