rebuilding itr calipers q's.
well my brakes are extremely beat and i completely dis. the calipers and painted them. i can get he piston back in but when i do, the piston boot doesnt go in properly in the grove. any advice?
things ive tried
1. put the piston boot on the piston itself then slide into the caliper.
outcome - the piston boot doesnt go into the groove inside the caliper.
2. put the piston boot into the groove inside caliper-
outcome - hard as hell to get he piston in
TIA

that's how i did it.
i used brake fluid as a lubricant and both hands to work my way around the piston pulling the boot up over it. took about 2 minutes.

This is a PITA I know what you're going through. I just had to redo a rear one only to find that its still having problems.
Its difficult and I sat around for about an hour playing with it. Use the proper brake parts grease and play around with it. Theres nothing in the Helm that says how do it.
I did it by having it on the piston already and then putting the piston in, working it into the groove then pressing it in all the way around. This was for a rear though.

You can buy a rebuild kit at the dealer, including a new piston boot. One kit per side, if you need two...

Does Honda sell a rebuild kit? For the Supra the kit comes with new piston seals and dust boots along with snap rings. It also comes with the correct assembly grease to put things back together.
Also have you checked the manual for rebuild procedures?

yeah i have the helms manual right here. doenst give you detail instructions on how to rebuild them.
acura/honda does offer rebuild kits at 23 bucks a side. i just dont wanna mess with it anymore. even if i was to get rebuild kit, i might end up ripping them again.

Yeah, and they dont do core trade ins on the ITR calipers because they dont get enough cores for them. I had to just order a brand new rear one, so now I have 3 useless rear calipers.
If you prefer not to rebuild them yourself, why don't you just pay a professional mechanic to rebuild your calipers for you? It will probably be cheaper than buying new/rebuilt calipers...

Yes, exactly. Mechanics do this all the time. Not the guys at Jiffy Lube, but the experienced ones who bother to get ASE certification, etc. I've had it done by my dealer's service department as well as by an independent mechanic near my house. It doesn't even have to be someone who specializes in Hondas, only someone who is a good, experienced mechanic.

I forget. But I'll let you know as soon as they call me in the next few days, when they get the rebuild kit that I ordered yesterday, after noticing a ripped piston boot when I changed my pads at the hotel Sunday morning...

what i did was to make a plastic cylinder just slightly bigger than the piston. i used the plastic cap from an aerosol can and cut out the top. you attach the piston boot to the plastic, and then you shoot the brake piston through it

It does not want to go back in the caliper body as easily as the RF.
As with most things... "deal with it later"

FRONT CALIPERS
if you tried to take it to acura/honda dealership to get it rebuilt with new seals, they wont do it. theyll offer to sell you remanufactured ones.
110 with a core exchange.
REAR CALIPERS
there is no core exchange available for the rear. either rebuild them or buy new ones.
most of you already know the part number for them, but ill list it for those that dont know. this is for the front calipers
45018-SM5-000RM
45019-SM5-000RM
if you give honda a call and give them that number, they will say its the old part number
heres the new one.

Sure they will. Maybe your dealer won't, but I've had two different Acura dealerships do mine with the seal kit.

hmm really... i checked with my honda (hinshaws honda) and also acura (acura of seattle) dealership and they said they wont do it.
i just called the acura dealership again (acura of seattle) and got a different guy and they say the can do it but it has to be on the car even after i explained that i already disassembled them and just need the piston boot installed. he still says i have to have them on the car and that it would be 90 bucks an hour for labor. retarded!
