Help! Need Brake Caliper Advice - 97 Accord
I have rear disc brakes on my 97 Accord EX. The pads were getting thin so I removed the caliper to replace the pads. The caliper piston won't push back into the caliper housing. I have tried the C clamp method and the prying method, but it won't budge. Does anyone have any suggestions? Please help.
Rear calipers have the handbrake mechanism inside so the pistons twist in, clockwise. They won't go straight in. If you've pressed them too hard with the C-clamp then maybe they're screwed up - you might be looking at some new/rebuilt calipers now.
Thanks, yeah, I don't know what I was thinking. I was able to rotate them back clockwise. I guess my worry now is that I have damaged the seals. Is there anyway to determine if the seals are bad? Thanks for your advice.
If the seals are bad they'll leak. When you twist the pistons you watch the dust boots so they don't twist & tear. You would have seen that.
By pushing with a c-clamp it's not the seals you're gonna damage. It's the auto-adjusting mechanism for the handbrake. If they twisted in smoothly, then maybe you're OK.
