Road Racing will have to be postponed.
After working (slowly) on building my CRX up for H1 competition, including getting the 6 point cage welded in... I've decided to give up the chase.
Two years ago, I had a goal of getting my race license, then dicing it up in the wonderful WCHC. Well, budget issues, an INSANE real estate market here in Vegas (hard to buy a house when a lousy 2 bedroom house goes for $150K, and i'm looking for a 2 car garage with 3 bedroom house), and of course, NO road racing venues IN vegas.
so, i decided to cut the cage out of my CRX. I cut the forward hoops, roof bar, under dash bar, and door bars out from the car. I tried to make the cuts as clean as possible so that there's a possibility of sleeving the bars (much like a bolt in cage). I'm leaving the rollbar in, so i can safely mount my harnesses. The whole forward portion of the cage weighed in at 59lbs, excluding hardware and window net.
After racing shifter karts and other karts lately, the cost to purchase a trailer, a truck, and other items just outweighed the actual seat time I'd get by race a car. I think my focus will switch to 125cc shifters. Much cheaper to race in... considering the ease of transportation, rebuild, tyres, and overall seat time.
I'll definitely keep the CRX for autocrossing, drag racing, and open track events... I just think the wheel to wheel racing thirst will just have to be clenched with karts. Plus, i think racing karts will be far more rewarding, due it's higher physical demand (forcing me to actually work out), it's higher level of skill needed to be fast, and it's just so much friggin fun.
someone made a thread recently about being competitive in three different motorsports. i guess it IS more difficult than one would think.

oh, one question i had was:
Rollcage sleeving. the cuts i made were:
Forward hoops - half an inch from the main hoop.
Roof bar - ONE cut, 4" from the passenger side forward hoop.
Underdash - ONE cut, 4" from the passenger side forward hoop.
Door bars - half an inch from the main hoop
would this be an issue in the future, if i ever decide to put this cage BACK in... (weld it in with support pieces).

Wish I could find a 2 bedroom house for 150k..... One bedroom (tiny) condos are hard to find for under $160k around here.
Gotta get your priorities in order though, which it sounds like you are doing

oh, i'm talking LOUSY. Like, you walk in the front door, sneeze, and you run into the backyard outer wall. Or, you walk out on the front lawn and people steal your car.

That half inch may be a problem!
The rest will be close but from what ive always seen, a 8" sleeve is the norm

LOL I wish it was that cheap here . . . . . there's nothing for less than $300,000 in socal. Unless it's an old beat up 2br condo in a sh*tty area. My 3br condo is worth around $500k

Well, one of the benefits of living in Vegas is that it WASN'T california
now, all of a sudden, $150K homes are going for $300K... this ballooned all in the past 2-3 years!
Also understand, the pay in Vegas isn't quite as high as it is in other cities...making home ownership even harder.
bastards!
and crap about the sleeve. I wonder, can you weld a pipe on the rollbar, sleeve that to the remaining portion of the cage?

You'll have fun racing the karts. And karting is pretty popular in Las Vegas. But don't get me wrong...racing karts is still expensive. I can't even mention how much I've spent this year.
Good luck, have fun.

i was going to keep the chassis and stick a CR 500 on it, but im starting to have too many projects.
