Default Explain how girldes work please

I'm curious of the design behind them, I can't seem to find much good stuff on the net. Where do they bolt in, and how does it affect the crank? Thanks

A girdle would bolt onto the main bearing caps. All it does is keep everything straight and lined up under high RPM/vibration. This puts less load on the main bearings and keeps them in better shape.

I'm sure someone can offer a more in-depth explanation, but it's a pretty basic part, and I've given you the idea behind it.

Yeah I kind of knew that much, I just wanted to know where it actually comes in contact with the crank. Only thing I can picture it being is like a big bearing. Or possibly it doesn't even contact the crank...
