well... here is what I think... you need a VAFC. fix your a/f ratio, and that is how you smoothen out your torque curve. mine was real off... mor my JDM H22a, I put the vtec point at 4700(that was the best point I found), and fixed my a/f, and that made it a lot smoother.

yeah he has one, i installed it for him, i guess 4500 was too low , anyhooter, i suggest he crank an oil cooler before he leans out the a/f, because its set rich for a reason from the factory, reason being to keep that motor under 'nominal' temps at that a/f

I am not toooooo sure off hand, I will jot them down later. I know at 7000RPMs, it is at -6% though. that gave me the most flat curve. quick question for you... have you dyno'd your car yet?

No not yet. I am still trying to pass emissions done in NC. That is my first goal and then straight to a dyno from then to see what else I can adjust. But doing some reading on this board I might go the Hondata way and upgrade my ECU. Still trying to decide on either Turbo or SC so it will be a good stepping stone for me and I wont need the VAFC then.

You should get it dyno tuned first. You will prob pass emissions better that way cuz u'd prob be cleaning up the A/F ratio.

You can go as low as 13:1 without any problems... it's rich from the factory, cuz the factory system sucks!

That dyno is pretty low for a H22a... Didn't you get a 178hp and 151ft-lb Alex ?

Well although dyno would be ideal, I will wouldnt be able to make any changes since I dont have a VAFC, nor a standalone as of yet. I am currently doing some reading on the Hondata and will probably go with a setup like that one to optimize my needs for the moment. But again that is probaly sometime next year.
As for emissions the car was just running waay to rich so the regulator should help lean me out enough to pass.

That's my dyno and yeah it is low. Do you guys who pull 170+ have a/c and power steering intact?
I hope to be extracting a few more ponies with a 3" diameter cold air intake and a V-AFC tune on the dyno.

that is a seriously funky graph.
remove or disable the vafc, see hwat happens then. . .

and do it on a dyno

Yeah I dont think your V-Afc is configured properly and is holding you back. You should be at least in the 160' range with your setup.

Well this graph has a peak of 161.5 HP. This is my one and only dyno run 3 months ago before the V-AFC. I have yet to dyno it since getting the V-AFC installed last weekend. I was just wondering if you could tell a good place for me to set the VTEC xover based on that graph until I get a chance to dyno it again. Anyways, 4,700 seems good for most H22s.

not for me it wasnt.
i found that the stock xover garnered the best hp. when at 4800, i lost a fat chunk of hp. . .

Hmmm, might that have to do with the way the H22 interacts with the dyno through your Accord transmission and it's long ratios?
Oh, BTW I hear my graph is all rough 'cause they did the pull in 4th gear and most other folks do 3rd?

no, the dyno graph should be done in 4th, that makes it mor accurate. if done in 3rd you it might read more HP, but it is not as accurate.

Yeah, I know 4th is more accurate as it's closer to a 1:1 ratio, but most guys here with H22s (mostly in the Prelude forum) did their dyno runs in 3rd for whatever reason.
