motors can be rebuilt or swapped easily. Mileage doesn't really matter that much if the car has been properly maintained. At any rate, it would be far from "worthless"...

I think of it of this way. If I owned a R for 150k Miles, each and every one of those miles would be hard driven. I would and did literally beat the crap out of my R. Thats what it is made for. Now granted my R only had 8650 miles. I'm sure if i kept on abusing it like i did, i wouldn't expect it to make it past 100-125k. Now in your case, the car was driven by an old guy. The questions come to mind is that with a high mileage R, things will break down. Can you afford to spend money into it? I personally would look for something with 60-70k and just enjoy it.
I tend to agree here. And just cos it's an old guy does not mean it dos not have hard driving on it. At 150K it's going to need wheel bearings soon. Also will need a bunch of bushings replaced in the suspension, as well as the shocks. AC will need a refill, clutch will need replaced, as will all the fluids (trans, oil, brake, clutch), and there's a likelihood of leaks from any of the major seals, esp. the front and rear engine main seals.
It will also likely need CV joints & boots, halfshaft bearing, tranny bearings & other wear items (eg seals, main shaft end play shims, shift piece, shift fork, change holder, maybe even LSD?). Ball joints, tie rod ends, and other similar parts, plus the steering box will be worn leading to slop in the sus/stering. Whether you will notice this under hard driving or not is unclear.
Depending on the engine wear and care, and how hard you want to run it, it's going to need a bore, pistons, rings, main and rod bearings, valve seats & guides, possibly valves, valve springs. A valve adjustment at least, and good idea to do a compression test and leakdown before you buy it.
Do you want to do all that work and more?

well i have come up with a little plan.... i am gonna start saving money prolly 5 or 6 g's then sell my car around here for maybe more than i paid for it and find a newer or nicer less mileage one!!!
btw: i had a 94 rs that had 220,000 miles on it!! that damn thing would almost beat gsr's!!! and overall it was tighter than a hogs eye!!

Hey you car *****... You will get a HYPE ARRR and it will either get stolen or you will get sick of it, or sell it to pay bills.
Or you will want something else! So many different cars with more potential, no offense to my elitist r brothers lol, im just saying.
I would love an R with a jdm front end myself, but its only going to be fun for so long.

so he has decided to come off of it, well it is about time, miles are nothing ie: rs 220,000 miles no ring groove, no squeaks, no smoke, especially the way he drove it. I am sure its not hurt, what was he wanting out right?
That doens't sound like much of a deal to me. I'd trade the SI + 5 grand in your pocket! Especially if your car only has 9k (I'd just keep it personally). I paid close to 10 for a 98 w/108k a few months ago if that helps you.

Man, you got a good deal if it was in fair condition.
Anyway, I see it as this: pay now or pay later with sport cars especially. 150K is an assload anyway you slice it. I had a Prelude with 130 and the repairs and maintence costs did come and go. The previous guys raised good points about the nature of the car in regards to how they are driven (aggressively).
Unless you are capable of doing the repairs and maintence, which you may very well be, or have money at your disposal for some else to perform these things, I'd keep looking for one in the 60-80K range for 2-3,000 dollars more.

What kind of maintenance records/receipts does the owner have for the car? A properly maintained car would be worth more than one that has been neglected -- especially with the higher mileage.
There was a 97 with 150K mi on Autotrader a little while back. Wheres it located. BTW it is a lot of miles so a lot of replacing would be in order.
