Dist Rotor and Distributor Probs... HELP ME!!!

Dist Rotor and Distributor Probs... HELP ME!!!
I put a new Dist Rotor on my car after the old one was smoked. I drive for 5 mins and the new rotor completely Melted!! So in turn I think my dist went bad. Can I test this? Also I have a dist off of a 1990 DX Hatch 1.5L can this one work on my 90 CRX Si? What would happen if it wasnt the correct Dist?
