Default Automatics

How would you launch/get the best performance from your car in an automatic? This would be coming from a 99' Civic EX auto, how would you get the fastest start from the line besides leaving it in d4. Thanks

Depending on the options you have you can do a number of things.

if you have the choices of d1, d2, d3, d4 do manual shift to get all the power/rpms out of the engine.

Start in 1 get to where you fell your power band drops off then engage 2nd and so on...

if you don't have the choice of d1 then you will have to start in d2 but with some Honda transmissions you won't engage 1st gear in d2 so you have to go to d3 and the transmissions will shift depending on the amount of peddle you apply same as d4.

if you want to mess up your transmission you can rev and do a neutral drop... but that is bad

or you can apply a little left foot breaking increase the rpms slightly by pressing the gas then release the break any you may get a little more of a jump

that is pretty much all your options unless you want to pick up a shift kit...I can't tell you about those cause I simply don't know... never had one.

hope that helps

a shift kit, goes in your tranny. it modifies the way your trans shifts, it will shift quicker and firmer with a shift kit. i think the only company that works on import auto tranny's is http://www.levelten.com i would give them a call and see what they can do for u.

Thanks guys! My Civic starts out at D2, and it seems like it doesnt start off in first gear with it in D2, so would I take it to D3 instead? Thanks once again

How much help does it really do to start in 1 as oppose to drive and just stabbing the throttle?

I have an old 87 prelude which is my winter beater and I have been playing around this the automatic tranie which I hate by the way...the only reason I got it is because I paid $800 Canadian.

but to the point....you only have d2 so start in d3 once the car automatically shifts into second drop the gear down to second manually so your can max redline or reach the end of your power band. then shift to 3rd etc... in 1/4 you should not get beyond 3rd anyway so no biggie

this is for Cyrio, I will make a little difference to shift manually because either you car shifts for you at about 5500rpm or you can punch it out until 6500rpm or wherever you start to lose power....in can make a large difference in some cars forsure.
