Default b18c1 with b16 im, will stock ecu work?

my friend has a b18c1 with a b16 intake manifold, he needs to know what ecu to use (he bought it as a theft recovery, ecu was stolen). will a stock gsr ecu work? will it give a cel for the secondary butterflies, since b16 im doesn't have them? another option would be to use a b16 ecu, since it won't look for the secondary butterflies, but would it run too lean for everyday driving? yes i did search, but i couldn't find this specific info. thanks in advance. if it matters, its a obd1 engine.

NO check light for the butterflies. At least on obd-1 cars. It will work fine. I just want to know how you mated a B16 intake manifold onto a gs-r head. You would have to cut the manifold and tap the water line. Thats crappy. But thats how we used to put ITR manis on a gsr when we had no other options. Or does it have a B16 head on it all together?

Alot of people dont use the P72 ecu because it will still look for the secondary runners, so it will dump more fuel in at about 5500 rpms...I remember because the secondaries never worked on my car, and the fuel would just smoke out the back of the car

That is unless you chip the ecu or use a p28 ecu, if you already have one that would be your best bet. Or just use the p72 and use uberdata or hondata or something similar to tune it to your setup.

a b16 manifold will not bolt up to a b18c head. he must have a skunk2 manifold.

honestly i don't know how the manifold was put on, or even if its a b16 im. i haven't had a chance to look at it yet. its my bro-in-law's car, he just bought it. he said its a b18c1 block, head says p72, but the im curves up, like the b16, instead of down like the regular gsr one. he said it looks like a stock manifold, no brand name on it or anything. is there a stock im that would bolt on to a gsr head (other than the gsr one duh)?

your skunk2 doesn't have the brand name anywhere on it? that's wierd, most aftermarket im's i've seen have it in huge letters. is there any way to identify a skunk2 im? anyway, would the engine run somewhat normal with just a stock p28? he needs to start the engine to resell it to someone else, he doesn't want to spend a bunch of money on the ecu to chip it or anything. the buyer just needs the engine started before he buys the car.

skunk doesn't put their name on their mani's. i've had 2 of them, neither had any markings besides a serial number that was printed on accross the plenum

a stock b16 or ITR mani will say "pgm-fi" on a little plate thats accross the plenum.

my skunk2 IM doesnt have anything stamped or marked on it. Its originally supposed to have a stamp on it for state ref purposes. But a b16 or itr manifold will NOT fit a GSR head. Your friend can use any ecu.... i'm assuming the car is obd1. If this is the case, i'd recommend a chipped p28 ecu over all of the ecu's. But you can run a p30 b16 ecu, chipped p08, chipped p28, p72, p61...........the only ecu that will be beneficial will be the chipped p28 IMO tho. pm me if you want more info

how would the engine run with a obd1 b16a3 ecu (i'm guessing the p30)? he actually asked me about that one, i think he found one for sale or something.

I've tried the p30 ecu on my gsr w/ the skunk2 IM. Feels like a stock ecu....it'll run the car perfectly fine.
