Saw the ALMS and Speed Challenge at PIR today!
Great races both of them, hopefully someone got pics to post.
I actually liked the Speed Challenge race a little better just because it was slower, and there was much more action IMO. 2 Corvettes collided in the first hot lap, and the next time they got the green flag, one of the Cadillacs collided with a Corvette and then smashed into a barrier ~30 feet from me, losing a front wheel and half the front suspension in the process. The first turn at PIR is a killer, especially when there are so many evenly matched cars racing at once.
The ALMS was cool too. Extremely loud engines, tons of Porsches and assorted other cars I will never own. The unfortunate part about the ALMS was by the 40th or so lap, both the Ferrari and Panoz were no longer in the race, and around the 90-100th lap, the 2 Lambos and the Saleen were out also. All but the Ferrari were engine failures I believe, and I think the Ferrari was kicked out, but I'm not sure, can't hear anything on the speakers over those engines! My favorite part of the ALMS was when the #20 and #38 prototypes were chasing each other for like 5+ laps. #38 had no patience and was burning up tires like crazy trying to pass, and eventually spun out (think he hit a C5R). He was facing backwards and burned the tires out again spinning the car 180 degrees in like half a second. An 800hp burnout on a car that weighs less than a ton is quite impressive.
Anyone else that saw the race chime in, it was a great show!

I was there...but we ended up leaving a bit early because of my friends sunburn. He was already red when we went there, but it was honestly starting to turn purple by about 3:00...I hope he is ok.
Anyway, good racing. I have 100+ pictures but unfortunately they would all need shrunk down to a managable size and hosted...I don't have the patience to shrink them (does anyone know of a batch picture shrinker? I use photoshop right now but its horribly time consuming) and I don't have a place to host this many files.

Vette contact anyone?

Great shot of that, I remember the orange vette tried to drive away before noticing he had about 45 degrees of negative camber on a rear wheel... luckily noone was hurt today, although the Cadillac driver didn't seem too happy.
From that pic you were about 20 feet from me, and I too am sunburnt as hell now.

I watched the Challenge race from there, but we snuck across the grass for the ALMS race...hanging out in the pit area was cool as hell. All in all I have pics from about 5 different areas....

This is probably my favorite picture (dont ask me why). It was the Ferrari of Houston team jumping across the wall to get ready for the pitstop. Pitstops amaze me...its hard to imagine a group of people actually working that well together (I work at a shitty company I guess
).
Did you stay for the Spec Miata race? I love those cars...slow (compared to ALMS) but they race in such a tight group there is a lot of action. My favorite is probably the touring cars, but they ran on Saturday and I had prior obligations...plus I could do without the 105 degree heat.

No sorry. The touring car race was held on Saturday and I couldn't make it. I was somewhat dissapointed they didn't at least have the cars on display though (or at least if they did I didn't see them?).
