New (to me) Accord
Yo Kids!
Old fart alert here. Just bought me a 1992 EX Coupe with stick. I been lookin for while, as I was waiting for a small dealer to deal with me a bit on a Teal green 92 EX(105K). It didn't happen.
Got tired of screwin around and found an ad on cars.com for another- private sale. This one is Taupe/Rose/Greyish- with marroon interior, and spent its first 7 years in California. The car had 152K on it, and the guy wanted $2750 with 4 mounted snows.
I saw it, and my jaw must have dropped a foot. Cars that have been in New England for 5 years just don't look this good! Turns out the guy garaged it here when he moved, and the car is a one owner. He gave me the records for it too. Did the water pump and belt at 90K, a radiator thats a year old, rear rotors and brakes with 12K on them. Clutch never been touched.
The car is friggin solid! No rust on quarters, no oxidation or junk on the wheels! Everything shines like it was brand new. The inside is spotless. The spoiler looks great, the twin tips shine! The snow tires just blew me away- 4 BRAND NEW mounted on black rims Bridgestone Blizacks!!!!
The only issue with the car is the A/C. He had it converted to 134 last month, and it just died one day. I can't hear the click when hitting AC switch, so compessor isn't coming on. I checked the fuses, and none blown. I will screw with it a bit later.
Anyway- I felt guilty asking him if he'd take 2500, but he said that was fair considering the AC.
I OWN IT!!! and love it!!!

Good deal!
If the compressor doesn't come on, it might have had a leak and all the refridgerant came out. If the system is low on pressure, the pump won't kick on.
You could have an experience like mine, which I hope you don't ... After fixing a blown hose (high side), the evap blew up. I think there was a clog in the system somewhere (sitting for too long someplace before I picked it up) and caused the hose to blow out. Then with a new hose, the evap canister went. Split all around the seam at the top. Mineral oil EVERYWHERE, big 'ol cloud and sounded like a shotgun. Internal parts to the evap flew out, one even across the street!
So no more A/C for me...
Ah well...
Good luck with yours! (Have an A/C mechanic do it for safety and to get it right... I was sitting in the driver's seat when mine went up. The top of the evap swung up and out, smacked into the house and made a little gash in the wood... NICE)

YIkes!!!!
I can't even imagine something like that happening. Isn't the evaporator under the dash???
I may just call the guy who did the job. I have the reciept here from 6/18/04. He paid $110 to do the conversion to r134a and recharge. This certainly doesn't sound like much to do the conversion does it??
Thanks,
Chris

Sounds like the guy who did the conversion screwed you. A buddy of mine had his converted (costed more than $110) and 4 months later it dropped... No A/C! Don't know if this is a common problem or coincidence but the moral of the story is.... after having it looked at it was going to cost him another $2400 to get it running again.(Not sure what the $2400 entales)

Yeah I'd check to see what he did in that conversion. Going off memory here...If you don't flush it out and replace the condensor the remaining R12 will react with the R134A turning into acid and destroy your seals. Sounds like it was done pretty cheaply, maybe too cheap. Check it out, I've also read some stuff about people having problems with the actual AC switch itself. Hope this gives you somewhere to start.
And seriously why do you need AC anyways if you're talking about snow tires and stuff LOL?
