Default 1998+ Accord buying advice needed

Hey all,

I'm looking to buy a '98 Accord 4-cylinder LX or EX, with either a manual transmission or an autobox.

Currently, I'm looking to see if there are any major problem areas that I might want to look out for in Accords. I know the V6 models have had some problems with their automatic transmissions, and have seen a few posts on Edmunds.com about people complaining that their 4-cylinder Accord's automatic has failed at 60 or 70K miles.

So what I'm wondering is this: Do 6th generation Accord 4-cylinders generally have early problems with their automatic transmissions? I'd prefer a manual, but I'd buy an automatic car if I found one in great shape for a good deal.

Thanks a lot!

it really depends, some people say they have problems with their cars but they floor it at every damn light possible... so you kinda have to becareful who you are going to buy it from, and find out do they have receipts of their fluid changes, so you know the car was well maintained...

you can always bring it into a shop for a inspection before you purchase the car to see if theres any problems... better wasting like 100$ on a check up than to lose out on a couple of grand buying a f*ed up car youll have to spend extra thousands on repairing.

I did a thread on this recently, hold on.

My tranny blew on my 2000 SE from a factory defect...

That thread should help you out, I used those sites for research when I picked out the car

I wouldn't buy a 6th gen auto. the v6s have reliability issues, and the 4cyls, along with a quetionable reliability record, are dog *** slow. the diference between the 5spd and the auto is like 2 different cars.

hold out and find what you want. It's not a great deal if it isn't what you want.
