intermediate shaft bearing play?
wondering if this is something to be concerned with or not. I have the intermediate shaft and axles out of the car, and the bearing for the intermediate shaft seems kinda wobbly. Is there supposed to be ANY play in that at all? or is a little wobble ok? didnt really see anything mentioned in the helms.
Mine also had a lot of play at 40K when I did the clutch. I don't think bearings are ever supposed to be that wobbly. Still turned smoothly tho, and seemed well lubed. I put it back in cos I didn't have the time or money to swap it at the time. It's fairly easy to pull it later. No problems so far.
I'm thinking that has something to do with the slight driveline play I'm feeling on the transition from on throttle to off throttle (that, or the tranny main bearings and/or end play shim(s))

Anyone have feedback on this? I was under the car the other day and found that the metal axle cup that goes into the intermediate shaft has play... i'm suspecting the Int. shaft bearing.
Has anyone run across this? i'm suspecting this as some of the wobble i get in the steering wheel at high speeds. (wheels balanced.. bearings/balljoints all good)

Blah, I can move the metal axle cup that is right at the intermediate shaft... a good amount.
Blah blah blah..... anyone rebuild an Int shaft before? Simple as a bearing pressed out?

I found this video on youtube. my axles has more play then what the video shows. This is not my video, but I have the same issue. Should there be any play like in the video or less?

I see that this thread was started in 2004. I did not notice what location it was in. I did not want to start a new thread on the same topic. If it needs to be moved, then someone can move it. My car steering starts to shake when I get to speeds above 65mph. I have replaced the suspension, replaced the tires/balanced them and checked any play with the tires/wheels. The only issue we found was a axle nut that was not tightened enough. It helped, but I still have that issue. I will replace the intermediate/half shaft next. I think this is the issue. Any other thoughts or ideas?
Maybe off topic-ish nut I'm having the same issue with my G20. Replaced, rebalanced everything except the intermediate shaft and I truly believe this is the culprit. So annoying not being able to find the problem when you know your car.
If this turns out to be the problem then It will be info for the future on my ITR. The noise only seems to show up at certain speeds and part throttle. Thanks for bumping this thread, it might have saved me from looking any farther.

you can actually replace the bearing and the seal, (do it at Acura quite a bit)
