What does a wide body kit do?
I have been saving up money for a body kit and came across a wide body kit. I asked around and just heard that is was pretty much for traction with wider tires. And was wondering if it was worth the money for the traction.

Widebody kits are more for looks IMO. If you wanna run wider tires without having that funny look then you could also get some fender flares.
EDIT: the thing about adding a widebody kit is you're adding a lot of weight. A WB front and rear fender wont look right without a WB front and rear bumper to match. With flares you are not adding as much weight as you would with a WB kit.

first off yeah u will get traction
add weight to the car, lose the sweet looks of ur EF
but u will gain RICE points!!!!
in my opinion it is dumb to even have made one
sorry I guess I am more the simple and functional type of civic owner>>>???

I go with Krazie1 with the rice thing... but how much weight can it actually add.
compare that to the 10+ inches you gain on your footprint
I dunno tho i would say that they are primarily for looks. I would NEVER do one
I'm very plane though. i would stick with an si bumper and be happy

So you're saying you want a wide body kit to make your super wide tires that you want for more traction, on a FRONT wheel drive car huh...?
Now I may be e n00b... but how the hell would you get more traction by putting on a wider body kit?
And how exactly are wider tires going to help? Wider tires=less pressure per inch=less traction. Think about that.

Wider tires = more surface to tire contact.
More traction when compared to a skinny tire running the tire specs.

Wider wheels give you a larger selection of performance tires to choose from. It has been argued that wider wheels which have a wider contact patch gives you better traction. However the other side of the argument is that the better traction you get from wider tires is because wider tires are usually made from a softer compound and has better tread design which is what gives you better grip.
Look at the 16" and 17" widths for tires like Azenis and A032R. For Azenis, in 16" I believe they only come in 205 and 215 widths...for 17's they come in 225 and 245's. For the A032R there is a larger selection for smaller rims sizes, but once you get up to 15 and 17 inch rims, A032R's come in sizes no less then 205mm.

IMHO, and not hatin'.
They look like total crap..........ON ANY car!!!!!!!!!
UNLESS it's a car, SOLELY used for racing.!!!!!!!!!!!!
Period!!!!!!!!!!!
end of discussion.
They are of NO use on a street car, other to make them LOOK ricey and utterly digusting.
*rant over*

well everbody has their own opinions, but straight flares look like ****
if u can balloon the fenders (which costs a ton to do) looks better, ie the old m3's that had the widebody look stock.
but i have a feelz widebody kit not installed, i would have installed it, but im gonna sell the car. and yes i love handling, and some wider tires do matter if ur trying to take turns like i do. and yes tread compounds of course matter, but sheer surface area does matter a lot.
and i guess race only is a good generalization, but i dont drive on tracks very often, but i like to drive like i do. speed limits are boring, and driving like old ladies is too.
and if ur worried about the weight, then u really need to look towards ur motor and making it produce a litle bit more. cause the weight is there, but unless ur really competitive draggin it and looking to shave every lb u can, dont worry about it. but this discussion will run the course of the function over form crowd, the jdm crowd, and the show crowd. it depends on who u are, what ur goals are. if u like the look, which i do, then do it. i love watching gts class cars, which are all wide bodied cars lol.
