1989 Integra LS Suddenly dies
I own a 1989 Integra LS. Recenly while driving the car just suddenly died. Basically it seemed as if the ignition simply stopped. It started a few minutes, but then runs and keeps cutting out on me. My thought was the engine computer or distributor. Any thoughts? Thanks!
Does it start and run when cold?
Does it only die when its hot out?
If it runs and cuts out, it sounds like fuel...
Could be main fuel relay? (though i dont know about this one the 1st gen tegs)
Fuel pump..
injector problems..
Seems fuel related though.

I guess it could be fuel, but the way it dies without any sputtering whatsoever would make me think ignition related, but I guess I need to test it for spark when it happens again.
But the problem occurs both hot and cold. I can only go about 1/4 mile before I start having trouble. The car just shuts down totally, without even a sputter. Then a few minutes later it starts. Barely got home tonight. Thanks for the information. I will check those components you mentioned tomorrow. What about fuel filter? WOuld that do that. I had that happen once on a carbuerated car.

Forgot to mention in SC where I live it was in the mid 90s when it happened both times. I did drive it at night and it seemed to run well. ARe you alluding to vapor lock?
And the answer is..... Well it turned out it was a corroded secondary winding output from the ignitor module to the distributor cap. I inserted some sanpaper and sanded off the green corrosion on the brass onthe ignotor module and reassembled and it started tight up.
I diagnosed it using a spark tester and found no spark. Then went right tothe distributor to test the primary and secondary output resistances on the ignitor. They tested OK, but then that was when I noticed the corrosion.
ANyway, thanks for the ideas everyone.
