Default newbie on auto repair

hello. i apologize if this is the wrong forum.. mods, feel free to move this if it doesn't belong here

i was just wondering if there are books out there that would tell me how to do tune-ups and such at home? i'm trying to save as much money as i can and only go to a shop if absolutely neccessary. any good books or websites or stuff like that u guys can recommend?

fawk chiltons buy the helms manual from the internet. trust me even though i have no manual get the helms.

http://www.helminc.com its expensive but its the best manual u can get. you can also check team-integra.net they got some good article for the newbs.

that helm thing looks pretty cool but is there a ONE book that can tell me most of what i need to know? or am i asking for too much?

Get the Helms, it will teach you alot about your car, before i had a Helms I barely knew how to bleed brakes, now I can pretty much do everything on a Honda / Acura..

the helms is really good. but it is written for a honda tech, so it assumes you have some basic knowedge. you might want to buy a haynes or chilton manual as well to fill in some of the gaps if you are a total newbie.

but if you plan on doing anything more than just the most basic maintenence, buy the Helms.
