AEM or UR
I'm just about to go ahead and buy a pulley set for my crx. I have heard only good things about the UR set, but i havent heard anything about the AEM set. I was just wondering if anyone had had experience with either or both of these and which one they thought was better. And just informative purposes they're going on my 90 Si engine.
I realized i missed the second part of the question, being: How hard of an install will this be. I did a search for it, and came up with people having problems doing it to their preludes, but on a crx is it just as hard?? And will i have to life the engine out in order to do this?? Thanks.
yeh if u are putting a pully kit on a D-series or ZC dont put underdrive pully it spinsbearings ....... and the shouldnt be hard to put depending on what kinda motor u have on your car ...... the only hard part is getting the underdrive pully bolt loose but other then that its pretty straight foward
Well, I do have a Prelude, but here's my opinion--
If you think there is a risk and want to be 100% safe and gain very little power, get the AEMs. You just need to have an impact wrench(alt) of some sort and a pulley puller(P/S) to get the old pulleys off and put on the new. Or it might cost you $1-200 to get them installed.
If you aren't worried about and/or don't believe the harmonic balancer crap get the UR's and get some good power. You'll be replacing 5-7 lbs directly driven by the crank with 1-2 lbs. That's a noticable difference in my book. Oh, and the crank pulley bolt will require a massive amout of torque to remove, but the engine can stay in....I just went to a local tranny shop and they got it off in 2 seconds with their air gun
The best gain possible from any pulley set up would be to lose power steering and A/C and have just the UR crank and an AEM alt. pulley. I guess the downside would be depriving your alternator, though...

Well I don't have A/C or power steering so theres no loss for me there. And i have an HF Chassis w/ an Si motor and tranny. There are really no shops around here, that i know of anyway ( i live in Maine, most people here drive trucks). And if you know ahere i can find a"pulley puller" online that would be great, like i said there arent too many resources for this kind of stuff around here. the closest thing we have to a "sports" store around here is advanced auto parts, and all they carry is APC parts. I have just ordered the UR alt pulley do to the responses I've gotten here. Thanks again guys and any further help is greatky appreciated.
i have a unorthdox pully on my b16. just the crank pully, i have no power steering or ac. i have not had any problems with it. i have had it on for 2 years now.... i would recomend the unorthdox, there the best
